It's amazing how one new building can transform the look of an old town. That's what happens when someone has a dream and a vision as to what something should be rather than what it is. What it was, was an eyesore at the stoplight in the quaint little of Metamora. A rundown piece of yesteryear. An old gas station and party store that both had seen better days long long ago. What it is now is basically the same, in some ways as it did couple of years ago. To me, 'it' looks like an old Sinclair gas station with garage doors and repair facilty. When you get inside, it's like going back in time to when things were simpler with a twist. This general store has a Coffee shop, a wine bar, snack bar, pizza and souvenirs, nic nacs, candy, beer, cigarettes, etc. The coffee is very good and Expresso or Americano as I prefer, was excellent! It would be a great place to hang out while waiting to be seated at a well known eatery also downtown, the White Horse Inn or on a Saturday morning comfortably reading the paper or talking with the city elders. The town is not B'ham and not bustling with people and boutiques. It's just a quaint quiet little village on the verge of a...
Read moreSo happy to see people are visiting The Metamora General Store. A Great team worked to develop a place that looks like a Sinclair motor station on the outside and is a surprise to people as they enter and find themselves in kind of an Alice and Wonderland book. Or as another reviewer put it a Jettsons on steroids episode. We had fun mixing industrial steel and old block walls with French and Italian chandeliers and boho wallpaper. Vintage mid century meets Hollywood regency. Then we loaded it with good quick snacks and sandwiches, low priced beer, strong Italian coffee drinks, tasty baked goods, and wine by the glass or the bottle plus delish small plates to go with it all. And an iconoclastic collection of books, clothing, boots, cards, one of a kind antiques and vintage pieces, capes and wraps from Ireland and merino socks made by Metamoras very own Lisa Yarema.Theres something for everyone in all price ranges. Please come and explore, settle into a comfy chair with a friend to chat, share a German dark chocolate candy bar. This place is for you!!!
Thanks for the nice reviews hope to see...
Read moreLove the idea of the store, how they kept it historic just like metamora. The artists’ items for sale here are unique and well made. Relaxing atmosphere indoor and out, dog friendly which I love. We don’t love the food however. Everytime we’ve gotten food it’s been pretty terrible. Pizza sits like a rock in your gut, no flavor, too heavy of a crust almost like it’s a few days old, absolutely no flavor either and it’s always lukewarm not hot like pizza should be. The sandwiches are basically just bread bread and more bread, not homemade delicious bread either, hard and flavorless bread. Not much in the sandwich either. It’s disappointing because they could have a great thing going if they changed up how they make the food and what they make. Other than that, it’s a great addition to the community and beautifully renovated...
