Broken Barrel Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Middletown

Unfortunatley, we didn't have a great experience at Broken Barrel tonight. We were a party of 6. Appetizers came out pretty quickly; wings were not well done as requested but they were tasty, cheese balls were just ok. Our meals on the other hand took a very long time to come out. Even after our server said that she "saw the kitchen plating our food", we waited at least another 20 minutes. In all, we probably waiting at least 35-45 minutes.

A side of broccoli came out cold and was replaced iwth a hot serving pretty quickly. A baked potato, which was split, was visibly rotten on half the potato making that half inedible, and the pizza was below average which is very unfortunate considering the have a wood fire pizza oven. Perhaps the kitchen staff doesn't know how to properly use the oven? The crust was not crisp, cheese barely melted, and the sauce was definitely not homemade. We probalby could have gotten a better pizza at a skating rink, amusement park, or any chain pizza restaurant. The burgers were very tasty and cooked as ordered, and the pork cutlet sandwich was very good. We complained about the below average pizza and the owner took it off the bill; however, the owner did not come out and speak with us.

Unfortunately we had a very infuriating experience and had to leave before even getting to try any food. We first waited nearly 10 minutes at the host stand in a half empty restaurant while we watched the host bus tables and the stand in the back. At least 4 servers and 2 bartenders all greeted us and said someone would seat us shortly but none of them seated us theirselves. Again we could see the host standing in the back literally doing nothing. We got to our table had to ask several times for correct drinks and the "alcohol menu". Our server was very offhand rude. Was informed they have NO kids menu and nothing lower priced to offer children. Finally got to order dinner and was informed they are out of steaks- after the server had asked us to order multiple times and they never informed us they were out of steak. We ultimately decided to leave because we were so upset and wouldn't have been able to give our kids dinner anyways. My wife decided for us to go here on her birthday on July 2nd 2024. 3 of us ordered the steak sandwich, I ordered my fries loaded, and ordered the "ham croquettes balls, my son got the chicken plate with a baked potato and a salad and my daughter got hen sized chicken bites. The wait staff offered to have the steaks cooked either medium well or well. I knew right there that something was not right, is the kitchen not capable of cooking a steak medium or medium rare? It took AN HOUR to get our food. I say "ham" croquettes because there was no ham. Just burnt spheres of mashed potatoes. My steak sandwich was so tough and burnt that I wouldn't feed it to a dog, and the fries were never hot. The cheese was still on top of the fries unmelted. Also the size of the steak in the sandwich was maybe 6 ounces before it got blasted to hell and back (probably closer to 4 now) and basically the equivalent of a small order of fries at Wendy's.
