The 702, The Deuce. Five stars across the board. I don’t give that rating very often because not many places deserve it, but The 702 delivers, every step of the way.
As they like to put it themselves, “It’s a Five Star Dive Bar.” Tucked away at, you guessed it, 702 Jefferson Street, it’s got a surprising amount of room for a relatively small place. Still, there’s plenty of seating for small and big-ish groups, with real live music on a very regular basis (not just the weekends) and karaoke/specials during the week. When the weather is nice, you can hang out on the nice patio out front, complete with fireplace, comfy wicker chairs, umbrellas and table service. On summer nights, the 702.5 fires up out behind the bar, with a big dang stage, great music and a full, outside bar.
And then there’s the food. It’s not a huge menu, but that’s okay. What they do, they do well. While other bars may claim to have the Best Burger in town, the 702 actually produces that burger, with locally sourced ingredients. The other menu items are great too, like the ham & cheese sandwich, the quesadillas (not just cheese and tortillas) and the potato soup is always out dang standing.
Though it’s been around for a while, the building itself is still in pretty good shape, and getting better all the time. The owner makes sure to keep the place looking good, with nice upgrades showing up on a regular basis.
No review would be complete without a visit to the head, the latrine, the water closet, the bathroom. It’s surprising how many places don’t get this very important part of the bar right. The Men’s room, though small, is always functional and clean, and that’s a huge plus. On summer nights, there are additional portables out back, which helps because it can get crowded out there.
Like any place, the staff really makes the bar, and again, the 702 does it right. You’ll never be waiting for your drink because one of the staff is always right there, always friendly, always taking care of the customers. They rock.
If you’ve been there, you know. If you haven’t, you should go. Really. Like, today. Just go. And, as always, don't forget to tip...
Read moreEdited to add that I tried their food(amazing and decently priced!), And went for a drag trivia night and had the best night. Just like the first time I visited, AMAZING staff. Super clean, loved the vibes. And I will definitely be back for the next trivia! Highly recommend everything about this place, truly the best in town!
Didn't actually try the food(maybe we'll head back for lunch today), just wanted to get out for a drink having some toddlers and a baby at home. Applebee's, B-Dubs, big E's, so terribly packed. Drove across town, 26 and I've never been to a bar, had no idea what to order just an idea of what I liked, and she helped me out and made me some delicious drinks! Not too packed, the people that were there weren't unpleasant to be around, just your typical bar folk(exactly what I wanted!). The environment was just overall really relaxing and friendly. They are tucked away, so until I googled them we didn't even know...
Read moreOwner is aweful! Great band was playing, and multiple bar employees were walking by the large group of people dancing with us. The owner walks by, and pushed me. I looked at her and said nothing the first time…or the second…the third time she pushed me in the back, and told me to move. I told her to keep her hands off me, and that it helps to use her words. She then got in my face and told me I needed to leave. She even said I had to leave the bar because I wasn’t drinking. Well, I haven’t drank in 8 years, so that seems extremely ridiculous. I also think people should know that she is turning away designated drivers. It’s awful! I own a business in town, and I would be out of business if I treated people like that…I probably would be sued too. It’s sad, I just have never been treated like that by a representative of legitimate...
