I'm lucky enough to have experienced the culinary joy of tasting authentic, homemade Indian food. I'm not Indian, nor do I have any kind of interesting ethnic background. I just love food. I dated an Indian guy years ago, and I could not get the taste of his mother's cooking off my mind. I tried to replicate it in my own kitchen. I tried many restaurants, to no avail. I live in an area with a rather large Indian population, so you might think the restaurants would get it right. Don't get me wrong, they ARE good! But, not the way home cooked tastes. On my way through New Mexico, heading to Tennessee to see a relative who was told they have little time left to live, I stopped at Spicy Bite with my husband, kids, and my sister to get something to eat that wasn't the God awful fast food we had been eating for 2 days. I was worried the kids wouldn't like it (to be honest I was worried I wouldn't like it). I had NOTHING to worry about! The depressing journey to say good bye, became an adventure. We ordered A LOT. Some of the items I can highly recommend are the bangan aloo, raita, garlic Naan, rice pudding, fish pakora, coconut curry shrimp, saag paneer, and veggie biryani. I can't remember everything we ate, but I know everything we ate was BOMB. Fresh, just like home cooked, delicious! The rice pudding was on the house because we ordered so much food, and it was the most refreshing, delicious, not-to-sweet, pudding I've ever had. Sadly, both containers fell and broke open all over the RV floor. I seriously shed tears. For one order of Naan, it's enough for like 4 people! And you have to get the raita to dip! We didn't actually get the yellow tadka dahl that we ordered, but we didn't realize it until we were already gone and fully satisfied. We also, quite unexpectedly, got a plate of onion slices, lemon slices, cucumber slices, and jalapeƱo slices to eat with our food. This place is seriously, the best Indian food. Sacramento, California has nothing on Milan, New Mexico because of Spicy Bite. If you are driving through on 40, or live in the area, or are willing to drive hundreds of miles for the most delicious bites you'll take, try this place out. The only reason we didn't stop there on the way back from Tennessee is because it was too late and closed already. That was so sad. Lots of Indian truck drivers stopped there while my sister and I waited, cause they miss their mama's cooking! And, to be fair, it may be better than mama's. Thank you, Spicy Bite for the bright and delicious break on my journey to say goodbye. But, I won't say good bye to you!...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt seems that every time ( in the past year) that we have gone here ( about once a month) the food has gotten worse. What I mean by worse is that we order the exact same thing every single time, but itās different every single time! And not in a good way. Last night it was barely edible and we threw most of it away. 2 rice, 2 butter chicken (and Iāll talk about that in a minute) and 2 garlic naan MILD. $45. And understand, we canāt return and try to get it fixed because we are semi drivers and have to just make a super quick stop, grab and go and head on down the road. We team drive husband and wife so when we roll through there, we arenāt stopping except to grab food. Now when we stop during the day and the elderly lady is cooking, itās delicious! At night, there is no consistency. It never tastes the same at night, and usually is not good.( messed up one way or another but usually itās the heat level or sometimes it tastes bitter) We keep trying because we love Indian food but Iām sick of wasting my money, and itās expensive when they wonāt listen to what we want. Also, we try to order chicken korma (and have there before) but they keep telling us itās the same thing as butter chicken. IT IS NOT THE SAME THING! Itās like at night they donāt want to make Korma so they make butter chicken and say itās the same thing! (Seriously, Google it! They are not the same and weāve ate Korma a hundred times before at other places) Last night our ābutter chickenā tasted like straight up peppers. We hate peppers. And it was spicy. We ordered mild. When Iām paying the bill, and I order mild, regardless of the cooks personal heat tolerance, there needs to be a standard recipe for mild. These guys wing it, and not in a good way. And yes, I understand everything is made to order but itās shouldnāt be different every time! $45...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFood is good service is ok (coz guy gave me tap water in a dirty glass cup) but prices are a very high. For a simple potato bread, scrambled eggs and a tea they charged me 20 bucks. All other items on the menu were also over priced. For only that reason i am not going back. I wanted to give them 5 stars for food coz food is good. but i was very disappointed with prices. Reply to owner: Thanks for taking my review seriously but you have not addressed the real issue here. The issue is not water its the cup that was dirty. I liked the food and the quality but you cant over charge just because you are on the side of the road there are tons of restaurants like yours and they are providing high quality with reasonable prices. There is only one way to charge extra in food industry if you are offering a unique experience. You are not even offering a pleasant experience, look at your parking, interior floors and tables, restrooms and so on. So your reasoning about price is totally wrong. Instead of promising a better service in future you are giving me impression that criticism is not welcomed and you are not willing to...
