The Rail Trail Flatbread Co. — Restaurant in Milford

I normally don't go out of my way to review but feel I have to in this case. Went to the Milford location for lunch on a Wed. arrived at 12:30pm and was sat right away but the area we were in was by the door and a significant chill was there so we asked if we could move. It literally took the hostess 20 minutes to come back to us, as she didn't know what to do and had to speak to the manager. When seated in our new location, another 15-20 until a very nice server came over. The biggest complaint I have is against the manager. I wasn't aware that the dough they use is sourdough based, and not being a fan of it normally, I asked the server for a sample of it to see if it's really tart like some others. She tried to accommodate but another 20 minutes went by and still no sample and then the food of others at the table came out and I hadn't even ordered yet. I called the manager over and began to explain how the experience there wasn't good from the second we walked in and mentioned the bread sample, where he stated that no one has ever asked for that ever and they can't do it. I asked why can't they literally tear off a small ball of dough and throw it into the giant pizza ovens that were next to us. He said no and made no apology for any of the waits. You can obviously see that the place is short staffed and run poorly by this dult who doesn't have any customer service skills what so ever. Once I finally did get some food, when others were done eating, my meal was missing one of the requested toppings. I won't be going back and just don't see how this new location is going to make it...

I've been to this place three times now, and to be honest, I've never really been a fan — but my wife has always enjoyed it, so we kept coming back. However, after our most recent visit, even she said, "I don’t think I want to come back here anymore."

I won’t get into every detail, but we had a reservation and still had to wait 40 minutes to be seated. During that time, we watched at least three walk-in parties without reservations get seated before us. We know they didn’t have reservations because we were standing near the host stand the entire time.

Eventually, the manager must have realized we were still waiting and came over to apologize. He offered us a complimentary appetizer to make up for the delay. Once we were finally seated, it took about 15 minutes before anyone even came by to ask about drinks — it wasn’t clear who our server was. Then, when the appetizer came out, it was the wrong one. And when our food order was taken, my wife’s dish was incorrect as well.

To top it off, when we received the bill, we noticed that the “free” appetizer was actually charged. When we brought it up, the response we got made us feel like they thought we were trying to scam them — which was frustrating and disappointing.

Having enjoyed the Hudson location, I was excited to try the Milford location since it's closer to home. Unfortunately, I left feeling a bit disappointed.

We ordered the truffle fries, but they tasted just like regular fries. Our waitress was attentive and noticed our dissatisfaction, kindly offering to take them back. However, we decided to just let it go.

The flatbread we ordered was good, though. When the gentleman serving the flatbread offered crushed pepper and parmesan I also asked for garlic powder. It seemed like he wasn’t familiar with my request, and it took a while for the restaurant to find some garlic powder, which was eventually served in a sauce cup. I understand that sprinkling garlic powder on pizza might be a regional preference, but at the Hudson location, my same request was handled smoothly.

On a positive note, the cocktail was just as good as at the Hudson location, and the beer list was equally impressive. The two locations have different beer selections, and I was pleased to find some great options here that weren’t available in Hudson.
