I brought my family who was in from out of town to experience Erie’s famous Sara’s and I’m very disappointed to share the experience was terrible. I ordered a plain turkey burger with cheese and bacon as I always do and have done for years. What I got was a turkey burger with lettuce and tomato. The cheese was on the side in one of the fry containers. Very bizarre but my assumption was it was a new employee. We returned to the cashier we ordered from to fix it. The cashier was in error for not ordering what I requested. I ordered two cups of cheese and didn’t get that either. The manager (perhaps owner) was brought over. She took the receipt with no eye contact, no sorry about that let me investigate, etc. Instead she chose to point out that receipt didn’t say bacon and pressed the issue. Yes, because your employee messed up and stood there smiling without admitting her error. They brought a second burger that was then just a turkey burger with cheese and no bacon. This was the same patty from the first order so it was cold and had been passed between multiple employees not mention it was touched by tomato which was the original issue. We requested a new one. Finally got the right order though it was done with indignation and the bacon looked like they found it in the garbage. Having ordered here before, I know what their bacon looks like. The most concerning part is when the person in charge brought it over and there was no so sorry for the wait or the multiple issues. Again zero eye contact or acknowledgment of their errors. She just walked away. Your rudeness and lack of integrity in your business just earned a well concerted effort in which I will inform every Erie friend about this so that they too don’t bring family here to have irritating vacations. By the time we ate the food was cold and the afternoon ruined. I wasn’t upset that the order was wrong. Things happen but the rude nature of this interaction shows me that your overpriced, over/undercooked food is simply a peninsula clogging tourist trap illusion. Skip this place and enjoy other local restaurants who take pride in feeding our community and who feel their customers are worth their time and...
Read moreCame for dinner for two; 2 chicken sandwiches, 2 curly fries (the only side option they had, out of everything else), and 2 milkshakes.
Milkshakes were done in under five minutes and were great!
Waited a total of 47 minutes for our food to come out. No apology for the wait and no explanation. Sandwiches were not to order and inconcistent (one had bacon and lettuce, the other had neither). Fries were cold, chewy, and had an odd, sweet taste.
Price for the food is fair if you don't have to wait 45+ minutes and get what your ordered. It's too bad I got neither of those.
Atmosphere is 1950's. Clutter everywhere, including a completely irrelevant upside-down toy alligator on the ceiling. But I suppose this may be appealing to the local boomer population. The building is cramped, as the kitchen has expanded into the waiting and dining area over time, leaving little indoor space for customers to wait for their food.
Parking on a busy day is nearly impossible, and traffic for the drive through comes out on to the main road.
Would I recommend stopping here for a meal? Absolutely not, and I won't be coming back for a meal ever again. Save your time and money by cooking out in the dedicated picnic areas around the peninsula, or go to a far better local restaurant in the city.
Would I recommend stopping by for ice cream or a milkshake? Absolutely, my milkshake...
Read moreUsed to get ice cream here as a kid coming to Erie for the summers. I always would get a chocolate vanilla swirl cone with sprinkles. And I had a deathly peanut allergy, and always felt safe.
I went today after having not gone for many years, and got an orange vanilla swirl cone. Was going to get sprinkles until I saw that not only were they right next to crushed peanuts, but the workers are so not careful that there were TONS of peanuts in the sprinkle bin. So if you ordered sprinkles, you were getting peanuts.
This is extremely dangerous. I would’ve been rushed to the hospital if I had gotten this. Also, the workers were not wearing gloves, and had peanut butter and peanuts stuck to their fingers. For this reason, I could only eat the ice cream out of the cone, and couldn’t eat the cone, because she was holding it with her peanut covered hands.
This really sucks because soft serve ice cream has always been the safe option for me- I don’t have to worry about the workers using the same scoopers that they used for peanut ice cream and things like that. But Sara’s really has gone down hill. Used to be a lot cleaner and safe for me and others with peanut allergies for all those years.
If you have a peanut allergy, avoid this place. They don’t care. And no I’m really not being a Karen because peanut allergies...
