Update: It has been about a year since the below review. I ate here again tonight Oct 29, 2020 and they have the hibachi cooking closed down and the fried rice wasn't good at all. The meats were good and soup was ok. I'm not a vegetable eater so I can't comment on the salad of veggies. I doubt I will return until they resume cooking in front of you again. The rice just didn't taste fresh and wasn't seasoned well. I can cook better fried rice and I'm far from a pro at it, but have watched it enough to know how to make it taste good. They charge the same prices and you don't get any show. They also upcharge $2.75 for Fried Rice which is ridiculous. That is a pet peeve of mine since 90+ % of people go to a Japanese restaurant for Sushi or Fried Rice. Also, prices overall need to be reduced since there is no show during this COVID pandemic. My server however was exceptional. She was checking on me every few minutes and was very attentive. I give her 10 stars, but the restaurant food quality 2 to 3 starts at best. Old Review back in 2019: The pricing is pretty good at Tokyo in Milledgeville. I ordered the filet mignon tonight and the steak didn't taste fresh. It hadn't spoiled, but it wasn't as fresh as it should have been. It may have just been sitting out a little long. The cook was good and quick and seasoned the food well. The shrimp were really good and the fried rice as well. They have a lot of Hibachi tables so they can handle large crowds and it's a nice restaurant overall. A big step up from what they used to have in the shopping center...
Read moreFirst, our server and chef were great, and though we had an enormous party of 18, we were seated quickly and together. Second, the major (but not only) issues: 1) The server for the other 1/2 of the table was terrible. She made it very clear to ALL of us that it was an absolute inconvenience for her to be assigned to us. And, though she didn't seem to want to deal with any of us, she argued with the other server--in front of us--about how the other server had "taken" one of her customers/seats, because the other server had divided the table based on how people were paying (several kids with an adult), rather than solely by number. 2) The food was only/barely okay--even my mom, who never complains about restaurants---seriously, never---said several times how disappointed she was with her food. This was an issue of quality, not with the chef, to be clear. No one who ordered steak hibachi ate all of it--everyone insisted that it was poor quality and taste. And, to top off the lackluster for quality, this place is EXPENSIVE. My ticket was my mom and me, which included veggie hibachi (SEVERE cross-contamination, btw), chicken hibachi, and two soft drinks. No alcohol, no seafood. And the ticket, with a reasonable but inexcessive tip, was over $50. We don't...
Read moreThis place looks so promising but was such a DISAPPOINTMENT. We went for lunch and was promptly seated at the grill. Tip off number one: the server brought our drinks out with the straws already in the cup completely unwrapped. The cook came out, checked our orders and started to cook. He did not put on a show at all. He cooked the food and plated it well. It looked good. But when I went to eat, there was so much teriyaki sauce on everything. The only two things I could taste in my food were the teriyaki sauce and onions. I had specifically requested no onions. I tried to make it better by adding what they said was yum yum sauce (shrimp sauce). Their "yum yum sauce" is nothing more than thousand island salad dressing. Then no sooner than the cook left the server was there handing to go boxes to everyone seated at our grill even though no one had requested them and everyone was still eating. I asked for a to go drink and she acted as though it was a horrible inconvenience.
TL; DR: Nice looking place, food and service severely need...
