The worst Chinese restaurant in the san francisco bay area! First of all, There is no open sign on the window. The door was broken, When my dad ordered the bun, the female server was super inpatient, said they don't have this particular one, and then we ordered another cuisine, she said the price was increased up to $15.99, it was $13.99 before. We didn't have any choice at the time, so we ordered it. The kitchen told us the one we ordered was sold out around noon. The Funniest thing for this place was all the dishes were totally different from the menu, the owner daughter's explained, the menu book was printed out in CHINA. Then I asked her, because of the printing was made in China, so the menu's picture is supposed to be different? She said we opened this restaurant at least 5 years, nobody complaint about it even the pictures were totally different ! Then we walked it...

I am a bit biased as the owner is a family friend.

Pretty decent spot for Hunan cooking. My family comes here pretty often and while there is some Americanization in the food, it's fairly solid for central Chinese cooking.

Solid choices are the frog, fishball and luffa, and the 糍粑 for dessert.

The peppers used isn't what we use back in Hunan and you can't really fault them as importing it is quite expensive.

This is one of the few places in the Bay that use dried imported Hunan black stinky tofu and it's pretty decent, but the broth doesn't quite have the same complexity and of course, dried black stinky tofu is about as close as it'll get here in the states since the normal production methods are illegal by FDA standards.

The location is a bit off, in the plaza next to Milpitas Golfland, but if you're looking for a specific style of Chinese cooking,...

The food was awful. The Twice-Cooked Pork with Chili came with two giant chunks of meat instead of proper slices—completely not what it should be. While the server did replace the dish after we pointed it out, the overall quality didn’t improve. The fried rice noodles were soggy and broke apart immediately, and the pig trotter still had large patches of hair left uncleaned.

Hygiene was a serious issue. On the way to the restroom, I passed the kitchen and saw cooked beef just sitting in plastic crates directly on the floor.

Service was mixed. The staff were polite when we spoke to them, but it was hard to actually find anyone. One server was sitting by the entrance playing mobile games and didn’t seem interested in helping.

Not...

Can't keep it a secret anymore, this Hunan cuisine spot is a must-visit! The stir-fried fish maw is absolutely divine! Wok hei! There's wok hei! Plenty of wok hei! Every time I visit Gu Xiang, there's always a pleasant surprise! The owner really puts in a lot of effort to run this place. The dishes here are truly different from other Hunan restaurants in the Bay Area, and their specialty dishes are all delicious! 🌟🤩 The stir-fried fish maw is out of this world! It's my first time having this in the Bay Area, and it's both crispy and fresh, making it impossible to stop eating! The dish is fragrant, spicy, and full of flavor. I highly recommend you give it a try! Changsha stinky tofu, a must-order every time. It's crispy and the seasoning is authentic, instantly transporting me back to Changsha. Stir-fried snails! A specialty of theirs that you can't find elsewhere, bringing a taste of home. Served on a hot plate, you can savor them slowly without worrying about them getting cold. 🐸 The stir-fried bullfrog is amazing! The bullfrog is super fresh, with incredibly tender meat, perfectly replicating the taste back home. It's the freshest I've had in the Bay Area so far. 👍 The cold pig kidney salad is tender, and the pig kidney is handled perfectly, making it crispy and fresh. Other dishes that have been fantastic include: pickled bean sprouts rice noodles, sour fish soup, scrambled eggs with loofah soup, smashed spicy century egg, hollow vegetable stems, chopped chili fish head. I've never had a disappointing dish here. I used to be reluctant to share this place, but now more and more people know about it, so I can't keep it a secret anymore. The owner is always friendly and chats with me when he's free. They use fresh ingredients, and the owner is quite laid-back, focusing more on the quality of the ingredients rather than the effort or profit. It's this kind of conscientious business that keeps surprising me with its flavors every time! Even if you're not nearby, you can order via 🐼 Panda Express. Some of their dishes are even discounted by 50% or 30% on the app. I recommend getting a 🐼 VIP membership to enjoy free shipping. Use the code in the image to get a $10 discount on your order, and new users can get a $15 discount with no minimum purchase. I visit this place every few days to pick up some pickled bean sprouts with minced pork! Perfect for two meals with rice. 😜 Gu Xiang Hometown Kitchen, 1245 Jacklin Rd, Milpitas, CA 95035 #BayArea #HomestyleCooking #HunanCuisine #SouthBayFood #SanFranciscoBayArea #OverseasChineseFood #BayAreaFoodDiscovery #PandaExpressGoldenPandaMustEatList #SanFranciscoEats #GlobalFoodieSquad
