This was my first order from Thai Kitchen, but I hope my honest feedback about my first impressions is well-received because I will be back, and I sincerely hope they stay open.
The online ordering process and pickup was seamless and very friendly. It’s just counter pickup—no in-house dining at all. I was greeted warmly and my order was verified before they handed it over. Everything inside appeared clean and the kitchen was visibly well-organized.
As far as quality of ingredients, you’d be hard pressed to find better, fresher quality from any current Milton establishment (Sysco delivery, anyone? eyeroll). I’ll go over the high points and missed marks of each item in my order:
Spring rolls: 4 lightly fried, crispy rolls with typical shredded veggie filling and served with the standard tangy, sweet chili sauce. The flavors were as expected, but the wrap was slightly too bready. I personally prefer a lighter, flakier wrap and more filling, but these were definitely yummy. Will order them again. 4/5
Chicken tom kha: carefully packed, hot, and wonderfully flavored coconut broth with really tender slices of chicken. I noticed this chicken was more tender and flavorful than that of the next 3 closest Thai restaurants (in Winooski, Essex, and St. Albans). Lots of sliced mushrooms. Up to here, this soup definitely scratched my tom kha itch because the textures and flavors were amazing. However, there were many large slices of galangal root, several reedy shoots of lemongrass, and a couple leaves of Thai basil. And an awkwardly large tomato quarter. Understandably, these are the integral ingredients that give so much complex flavor to the coconut broth, but I prefer these items strained out so the experience is pared down and focused solely on the smooth broth and tender chicken. The fresh cilantro was expected and delightful, however. Will order again. 4/5
Pad See Ew: this was my partner’s entree, so I can’t describe it in as much detail. He said while it was hot, fresh, and tasty (and made to order perfectly per his specific instructions), it fell short of his expectations based on his experience at the other local Thai spots. The rice noodles were the “fettuccine” style, and not the typical broad noodles for this dish. He also noted the flavor was rather bland and unlike anything like past orders elsewhere. He added salt and pepper. Lots of neutral cooking oil remained at the bottom of the container. It was overall good and he ate it, but it was not pad see ew. He also wished for more broccoli—this is an option (+$) when ordering but we didn’t choose it this time. 3/5
Chicken pad Thai: my immediate impression was the absence of sprouts. They’re not a must-have, so I moved on. Here I found the expected “fettuccine” rice noodles, a decent dose of chicken, tiny pearls of scrambled egg mixed throughout, a sprinkle of crushed peanuts on top, and surprising additions of some broccoli and thin carrot medallions. What was unexpected was the relative lack of sauce and flavor. While it was certainly yummy and I ate it, it wasn’t pad Thai sauce. It seemed to consist mostly of soy sauce? and sesame oil? It was vague, whatever it was. There was no detectable tamarind, no palm or brown sugar, no umami depth from fish and/or oyster sauce. 3/5
Overall, the huge portions, value ($54 with tip), and service experience were great. I’ll order again and see if things improve. I really hope so because Milton needs culinary diversity....
Read moreWe stopped by yesterday without realizing it's a take-out only restaurant. We are just traveling through the area and we're looking for something with lots of veggies in it. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and efficient. I have food allergies that can be hard to accommodate (gluten, onions and garlic - including shallots, green onions). The staff at Thai Kitchen could adapt any dish so I could eat it. Our food was ready in about 20 minutes from the time we ordered. I haven't had pad thai in years before this! Is the taste different without onions, garlic, etc? Sure but it was still delicious and I could eat it safely, which is all a win for me. We ordered two entrees and an appetizer for two people, thinking maybe the entrees wouldn't be quite enough food for us. The portion sizes were generous and we not only were very happy with dinner but also have delicious next day breakfast/lunch! Check out Thai Kitchen next time you're looking for a delicious meal...
Read moreI'm going to have to give it another try because I went on one of the first days open and maybe they haven't gotten settled in yet.
We ordered for pickup at 5:30. I arrived a few minutes before 5:30 but didn't get the food until about 6:10. They were very busy and I'm sure just figuring out the online ordering system.
But unfortunately the food wasn't all that fantastic. The chicken satay was good, the fried rice dish we got was average but the penang curry was honestly really bad. It was a salty, soupy mess with fatty chunks of pork and what seemed to be small chopped up bits of frozen bell peppers. It had none of the flavor I associate with penang curry from other restaurants in the area It was 90% soup, 10% pork and veggies and rice cost extra - rice for curry was considered extra. I couldn't eat it. I was really looking forward to good...
