Backdraught Tavern & Rescue — Restaurant in Milwaukee

I briefly stopped in here a couple of times, but did not get the best impression. Upon my first visit, I was waiting at the bar. I came around noon during the week so I had hoped it wouldn't be too busy. Unfortunately there were already several inebriated customers, one of whom was slicing up sausages with a meat cleaver... at the bar. Not exactly ideal, but I tried to mind my own business. Unfortunately, I had to return a second time. This trip I stood on the opposite end of the bar, and was able to get a better look at the establishment. On the right side was the bar. It was only 4pm, and already filled. It's obvious they have a very regular crowd. To my left were a few tables for patrons to sit at. It seemed like they were doing construction, or stopped halfway through. The floor & ceiling looked to be in disrepair, and again, not appealing. I only stopped in here to pick things up for a friend of mine, so I did not have a drink. As I said before, they seem to have a regular crowd that very much enjoys the bar. However, I don't particularly enjoy walking in and being greeted by someone with a cleaver. Will not be coming back to see progress on their demolition. The atmosphere was a solid 1 star. Only giving three because I haven't had their drinks, so I cannot downgrade them for that. The bartender & owner...

Come to Backdraught for all your entertainment needs. When you walk into this place, you would expect to hear circus music because this place is truly the "GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH." There is an extremely loyal group of eclectic patrons that are more entertaining than watching a three-legged race at the old age home. The bartenders are awesome and make the best ice cream drinks in Bay View. Specifically ask for a Brandy Alexander, Tom Collins, or a Grasshopper. Not just a dive bar, the DIVEY-EST. Cheap, but they don't even know how to make rail mixers. They're used to serving Miller, and bud, and that's about it. Don't try to order anything with more than one ingredient and expect it to go well. Great place if you're a late 50s alcoholic looking to get hammered for less than 20 bucks.
