So I live next door and was extremely excited about a new brewery, but this place isn't worth going to. I have been three time now. The first time they didn't have any mexican lager at all. I drive by this place to work and I tried to keep current on the open status. They only offered inferior pale ale when the doors were first open. Pale ale so mixed with water taste it was worse than a summit, which I consider the worst pale ale. The second time I went I had the had mexican lager but I couldn't drink more than a pint. Keep in mind they have exactly pint glasses so if you aren't served a well poured glass your are not getting a full pint, on top of that they are not rinsed before your pour. The third time was tonight and the only server was a nice but obviously jaded woman who was all by herself and without dinner. I asked because I wanted some tacos which actually was the only reason I went. There wasn't a food truck tonight, though I don't blame la dona for that. My beers with mango and chile didn't have any flavor at all and merely tasted like lager. Thanks for charging me extra for a flavor additive when your brew master if there even is one doesn't have a clue. On top of that being that it was so busy I was charged extra because the bar tender forgot what I ordered. Which my response was to tip less than I would care to for the inconvenience. Long story short inbound sisyphus modist and fulton are worth the extra 1 minute of drive, walk, or bike time. The inside is a rushed ugly paint job with exposed particle boards at the bar and concrete half finished everywhere. It's less charming than a dive bar. I also met Sergio there once and he isn't personable at all. I can tell they opened earlier than expected because they ran out of funds. The beer here is sub par. Never going back...
Read moreLa Dona HITS the mark every time!! If you want a delicious beer ...poured by a friendly beertender... in a welcoming tap room ...head on in to La Dona for a Dicky-brewed beer here, you will not be disappointed and your palate will thank you!! I'm still learning my way around IPA's I checked in on untappd w ASimcoe Stupid-IPA that prompted a friend to comment "that's an IPA! Was that on purpose?" I replied "it's a Dicky beer, definitely intentional". The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I regret to admit I have not ate @ La Dona....yet!! The space is large and comfortable, I appreciate when seating @ a normal height table is an option. Thanks for all the delicious beers and great conversations, La Dona, cheers!! I have been to La Dona numerous times strictly for the DELICIOUS beers Dicky brews!! Tonight I stopped in for the Taco Tuesday special; 3 tacos and a pint for $12. As I told beertender Delahno "a mistake has been made... these are so delicious, I didn't need to know this!" ha. I opted for the Al Pastor w the sauce on the side. Surprise!! The tacos came out w pineapple on them! I would have never considered that but it was a perfect addition! Glad I got the sauce on the side as it was a little spicy for my palate. I'm not even sure it was five minutes between when I sat down and the pager went off! I wasn't sure what to expect w ordering food at that window and getting the beer at the bar? No fear, they handed me a wooden token! I paired my tacos w a Suenos De Cafe, they both complimented each well. I had always heard the food was good... believe the hype! The food is as good as the beer and the friendly beertender!! Thanks La Dona for yet another delicious visit and great...
Read moreStopped in Saturday’s night and was excited as I have lived in NOMI for 10 years. However, had a disappointing experience.
Came in and was not serviced for 20 minutes, not even acknowledged. The bartender was pouring growlers and there was what looked like another bartender/busboy. The busboy said he was not allowed to serve us - and did not serve us but served other people ) please see picture). Once the woman bartender was done with the growlers she still didn’t serve us until flagged down. I ordered an IPA and she responded “don’t you want the Mexican Lager”. Perhaps I am not privy to a Mexican IPA but it tasted like a lager. Am interested to be educated more as I am used to a Surly Furious IPA and was expecting more of a hoppy IPA bite to it. I then finished the IPA and the “busboy” asked if we wanted another drink. Again, we never flagged him down as he had originally said he couldn’t serve. Really wanted to love this neighborhood place so ordered another beer and had the Bromista. For a pale ale it had a good flavor. Not sure, if we’ll be back, maybe it was since they are new but I was not impressed and with so many other places I and wish them the best and may try...
