I always love my trips to the Farmer's Market, with this being said, if you drive to it you're better off getting there early or a little later, if you try to go midway into the day/peak hours plan to spend some time looking for a parking spot. For the most part, the vendors here are local farmers from the Minnesota/Wisconsin area. There are a few Resellers here, which to be honest, I don't frequent that often as I would rather get the fruits and vegetables that don't grow locally from my neighborhood grocery store. There's also great local artisan bakeries with stands here, craft and clothing stands as well as more eateries popping up here (elote/grilled corn on the cob, corn dogs, fries, mini-donuts, pastries, brats, pork chops, burritos, fish tacos, egg rolls, coffee/chai tea, freshly squeezed juices...) Sorry, rattled on...but seriously, please come through and support your local farmers, it's a win/win situation, you support their hard work and you get fresh produce at great prices (not all of them but a lot of vendors even accept E.B.T., just visit the E.B.T. stand on site and they will help you through the process.) Plan to spend an hour or more looking through all the vendors, eating great food and drinks while listening to good music (yes, a lot of times they have live bands or local street artists or even just recorded music played over a speaker.) I dare you not to have at least a little fun here!!! Have a...
Read moreI had a really disappointing experience at the Minneapolis Farmers Market. I was shocked to learn that some vendors are allowed to mislead customers by selling grocery store fruit disguised as farm-fresh produce. A friend pointed out that the raspberries and blueberries we bought were actually store-bought and sure enough, we saw the same packaging stashed in the vendor’s van, while the berries were transferred to rustic-looking containers to appear locally grown. It felt like a complete betrayal of trust.
This kind of deception shouldn’t be allowed at a farmers market, where people expect to support real farmers and local producers not resellers passing off grocery items as homegrown. It left a bad taste in my mouth, and I won’t forget it.
That said, I did enjoy the crepe vendor, and the flower stalls were beautiful. The space itself is large and offers a wide variety of products. But it’s hard to enjoy those positives when you’re left wondering how much of what you see is actually real. I really hope the organizers take this issue seriously because customers...
Read moreI was on a mission and I didn't have time to take any pictures. It was raining which didn't stop at for being ridiculously busy, which is what makes this market so awesome! It is the biggest of the Minnesota Farmers Markets I kid you not by a long shot followed closely by a competition between Duluth and Saint Paul, which is hard to really measure because they're 200 miles apart. To which there is probably a dozen good orbiting medium sized Market like the Northeast Market which is the one I tend to go to on 7th and University Northeast. I'll tell you this there is more choice and variety here than any other Market. There is considerably more flowers and fresh plants, and cooked food, as in food vending. There's also more sauces and salsa, and Specialty Cottage made food as well. But, if you like to haggle like I do you're better off with some of the medium-sized markets and towards the end of the day because these guys hold their prices much harder. I know this from personal experience. Are considerably more mercenary, professional and in the business of...
