I SO badly wanted to like this place. I'd heard such good things about it, and obvs most people have a great experience. We did not. Parking was a mess and it was very hard to find a place to park. When we entered, there were no less than six people standing at the front of the very small restaurant. They appeared to be super busy. We opted for dine-in. I ordered the Quesa Burria Tacos after looking at the photo on the wall. I wanted four of them, but you can only order them in threes. No biggie. Per the picture on their wall, the Quesa Tacos looked to be meat, cheese, shell. Great, I thought, since I don't care for onions and cilantro.
Took us close to 30 mins to get our food, which was just six tacos. I had wanted two waters, but no free water was available - you had to purchase bottled water. Chips and salsa are also not free - $3 for that. Again, my mistake for not sitting down and checking the menu before I ordered. When I finally got our tacos, I looked at them and said, "Oh, I ordered the Quesa Burria Tacos" and the woman behind the counter said that's what they were. I looked up at the photo on the wall, and back at my entree, and it clearly was not the same thing. My tacos had a ton of onions and cilantro on them. The photo on the wall did not have onions or cilantro. See my photos.
The tacos were so oily/greasy that my mom could not eat them. We both agreed the taste was phenomenal, however. I finished all three of my tacos. And we split a slice of tres leche cake. The cake was great. There are so many things I want to try, and the place is super cute. But not sure I will be back.
Food quality was great, albeit greasy on the tacos. A $27 lunch for two with no drinks however... a bit much. And the wait... way too long...

ย ย ย Read moreThe bright colors of the building caught my eye just long enough to see the OPEN sign as we were driving by on our way to a pancake spot for breakfast. A Mexican breakfast sounded great so we turned around and it was the best decision we've made for a while. My SO ordered chilequiles with green sauce and two eggs over easy while I went with red sauce and added chorizo along with the eggs to mine. These were the best chilequiles I've ever had, the best Mexican breakfast, and really one of the best breakfasts I've had of any kind. The chorizo was nice and spicy with the perfect amount of dark n crispy bits with a nice lacing of crema. We also ordered mugs of fantastically delicious abuelita, Mexican Hot Chocolate, topped with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and a 'nilla cookie. The ladies working were charming and very modest in the face of our gushing at the end of our meal. We were in town from STL but visit my mom in RI often. I can't wait to come back and have tacos here next trip. I've had a lot of good Mexican food in a lot of places and from the lil taste of Coya's I enjoyed yesterday morning I have no doubt that most anything on their menu is going to...
