Big Mamas has been reviewed by over a hundred customers across several sites and the consensus is the food is simply delicious! And it is. So, because that fact has been established, let me add a few other details. First, the servings are more than ample. I got my late lunch to go and went to the Riverbank across from the OP Courthouse to enjoy it and the view. Had enough to put some aside to share with a friend when I returned to Grambling and to have for a late night snack! Second, the staff is awesome! Driving in from out of town, I arrived almost right at closing, but I didn't see one frown. Fixed me up with a smile! Sent me on my way! I cannot complain! And third, the atmosphere is reminiscent of Eddies on Law Street or Dunbars on Ferret Street in New Orleans. Every sector of the community is represented in its clientele and everybody receives the same greeting, smile, and service. Also, you are never rushed through your meal. In fact, as I was leaving several tables still had customers engaged in conversation. Some relaxed. Some spirited. Some humerous. But because of the spacious dining area, no one is ever in anyone else's way. And last but not least, despite the rising cost of everything in our country, the price for lunch at Big Mama's remains right! Coming into Monroe from the west, traveling east, get off at Jackson exit turning right. Drive on Jackson passing Orange, Apple, Peach and Pear Streets (not necessarily in that order). Get to the light on Plum Street and turn left. Keep left a few yards and you are there. Big Mamas Fine Foods at the corner of Plum and Second. A treat you don't want to miss! Perfect!
And I have to admit that these two photos are from the website. Once I tasted my potato salad, I forgot to take pictures! But trust me, that potato salad, home baked roll, and golden fried chicken breast...
Read moreYuck yuck yuck ! There were waaaaaay too many hairs on my pigs feet...it's a small restaurant very close to south 3rd St ....aka the toughest part of town... She sweats sooo bad over the food and sits in the restaurant at a table a watches the patrons eat... Freaking weirdo.... I will never go back to that place...I was afraid of being robbed...she started to me that since I paid for my food already that I could stay and eat but usually they don't let people dressed like me eat in her restaurant... Because she serves doctors and lawyers and this is a family restaurant...really respectable. Righttttt... There are bums standing outside... She does not support the community...and the food was extremely spicy. She didn't Kno that I make way more than a lawyer and my grandfather wanted to try that place..we were in town for my brothers funeral...and she completely ruined our lunch....she very lucky I respect my elders but one day someone is going to shut that roach infested looking...
Read moreMy husband, grandbaby and myself are running from Hurricane Milton and have been on the road since 4am yesterday. We decided to stop here for lunch because I was craving a home cooked meal and I was not disappointed. The food is outstanding, packed full of flavor and the best things I’ve eaten in a good while. Everyone was super friendly and made sure we got everything we needed. They do have lots of seating inside but I noticed , for this time of day, most came in and got food to go. It’s not a fancy place but it sure makes you feel like you’re visiting family. My husband and I plan to stop back by after dropping our granddaughter off at home in Colorado. When we head back to Florida to see if we still have a home or not. Hurricane due to hit early Thursday morning. Thank you all for a lovely meal and a few mins of no worries as we stuffed our bellies so full that we are now miserable and I’m still eyeballing the cake...
