Absolutely Amazing Food! I visit Montello occasionally and noticed this new restaurant just off Hwy 23 and thought I would give it a try. I was immediately greated and seated at the bar as I requested but they had several tables in the dining room. The smells of the food were to die for. I knew I wanted to try the smoked ribs for sure and compare it to my other places as well as the brisket. I ordered my dinner and a drink and the waitress walked me through the 4 homemade BBQ sauces. The food came out fast, hot and delicious. The Hickory Smoked Brisket was so moist and flavorfull and had great texture. The ribs were cooked to perfection, to the point they peel off the bones very easily when taking a bite on each rib. The seasoning on the ribs was delicious and no need to add sauces, but I tried them all and even mixed a few as suggested by the waitress. I was so pleased and satisfied with my meal I thought I struck gold in this quaint town. Before writing this review, however, I thought I may have just gotten lucky with the food, so what did I do of course, went back the next day. Saturday was Smoked Prime Rib night so I thought I would give that a try. I love prime rib but usually find that most places don't cook it slow enough to get the fat to melt and to be able to cut it with a butter knife. Ok, I guess I have very high standards on my meat. I just like it very tender and not steak like after typically paying more for Prime. When the Prime Rib came out it was what I envisioned and smelled so good. The slight smoked and seasoned flavor and tenderness was exactly how it should be done. It had extra dripings on the platter to keep it super juicy. I also got a side of BBQ Shrimp to try and glad I did, so yummy and descent size. The sauce they were in was also great! The homemade sides that came with my meal were just as good as the main course. You can tell they make every dish by hand and add something to it to make it extra secial. The homade Mac N Cheese had crispy baked sprinkles and the potatoes had chives. This place is a must if your within an hours drive. The owner is super nice and knows how to make great food in the huge smoker she has out back. I give Smokin Oak a 10 out of 10. I can't wait to head back to Montello and try what else they have....
Read moreMy husband and I have wanted to try this restaurant for some time. My husband, son, and I had dinner there. We were very disappointed. We had slow service, the place is not kid friendly, and the food is overpriced. We would definitely not recommend this restaurant.
We were greeted and seated. We were informed that they did not have a high chair, only booster seats. We have a toddler that moves around a lot, so the booster seat did not help keep him in his seat. We received our menus when we sat down. When we were asked about a kids menu we were told that they did not have one.
The service was poor. It took about a half hour for the waitress to take our order. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks. I think that they were either short staffed or there were only two waitresses working and one was also tending bar. While we sat there our waitress was serving drinks and talking to other patrons. She also raised her voice to another staff member. That kind of thing should not happen.
My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich (without slaw) and fries. I ordered for our son, who is a toddler, and I. I ordered the pulled pork sandy(without slaw) and fries, baked beans, and macaroni and cheese. My husband and I also ordered a piece of cornbread. The food was good, but your average barbecue restaurant good, not what we expected for the...
Read moreNestled in a grove of trees is one of the most surprising BBQ places! Smoking Oak has such amazing flavors that it will make you want to come back again. We were greeted promptly at the door when we walked in. There is a sign to make sure you check in before sitting. The bartender said “Welcome, we are all about smoking meats and relaxing”. That’s what we were looking for. The bar and restaurant are super clean. We opted for outside and the shade from the trees was perfect with the breeze on a hot summer day. They have indoor or covered seating outside with fans if you prefer. They have live music in the afternoons if you catch it. Parking lot is big enough for boats, bikes, UTVs, or whatever you got. I had a half rack of juicy, dry rubbed goodness that came with two sides and corn bread. (That’s a lot of food!) My husband had brisket which had no sides, so I ordered one of my sides for him. They make their own Mac n’ Cheese which is creamy and cheesy, with large noodles. I had ordered buttered baby reds which came out with green onions in them. Wasn’t what I was expecting, but I was so happy. The flavors all complemented each other. They must make their own sauces, which enhance every bite. We will definitely be back. Prices are so reasonable, staff is friendly, food was hot and so finger licking flavorful....
