My friends and I dined here on Thursday, 19 Dec. out of 5 of us, only one person enjoyed what he ate. I ordered the chicken Baja bowl with a side of guacamole (which I never received), someone else on my party ordered the enchilada platter, two others ordered the chicken quesadillas and the last person ordered one chorizo taco.
We were advised that the kitchen was backed up so it would take a bit to get our food. When we received our food it looked like it had been sitting, the melted cheese that covered the top of my Baja bowl was pretty much cold as was the cheese on the enchilada platter. Also the enchiladas were not visually appealing. The enchiladas were chopped up, unrecognizable as enchiladas.
I took two bites of my food and it was cold and bland and the beans tasted old. The person who had the enchilada platter said theirs was cold as well and the beans on the plate tasted off. The two who had the quesadillas said that the only flavors that came through was the cheese because the chicken in it was unseasoned. Their rice and beans were cold and once again, the refried beans tasted terrible. The only real edible item on the table was the chorizo taco.
The waitress came by to check on us, I told her that we’re were “just ok” as I pushed my uneaten bowl away. A minute or two later a man came to our table, I’m guessing that he was a manager, but I’m unsure because he didn’t introduce himself. He asked what was wrong with my food, I told him it was bland, had zero flavors. All he said was “very sorry” and walked away. Shortly after we received our checks, we paid and left. Just an FYI….there wasn’t a lot of people in there but they may have been short staffed (?) I’m guessing because no explanation was given.

Read moreThe prices are fair. The staff was kind. The craft drink/beer selection is plentiful. The atmosphere was chill vibes and soft, though that may have been because I was having a wonderful time with a friend. The food is difficult to like. I did have an enjoyable experience overall at El Rey Burrito lounge. Great place to talk to a friend at and eat fresh foods and weird tacos with a great drink selection.
I happened to have ordered two different kinds of tacos on maize tortillas because I knew I liked those authentic tastes that typically come with traditional names like, al pastor, and barbacoa. I didn't enjoy the barbacoa at first because it came with a slab of sour creme down the middle, and added caramelized onions. I began eating it with predetermined expectations of authentic Mexican food and was very disappointed. However, after I added a bit of salt, like one would on barbacoa, I began to like it. I ate it all and determined along the chewing process that once I understood the flavor profiles involved, it was quite an enjoyable taco, and you know it is because it still tastes great with a beer. I didn't really enjoy the pastor one because it came with pickled carrots and jalapeños which is unfortunate for me because despite being born and partially raised in Mexico I have a pathetically whimpy tolerance to spicy, so I didn't eat the pastor. I did try to taste the meat, but I wasn't satisfied initially because of my predetermined expectations. It was also covered on the pickled jalapeños, I couldn't really try it again like the first one.
My friend had a tofu salad and it was looked fantastic and got a great review from the one eating it. The vegetables...
Read moreBeen here more times than I can count. Came out to celebrate birthdays for our children and their friends, and left after being attacked in the middle of the restaurant. Our kids (girls) were told not to stand on the toilet by a random man (an Employee) who came to our table and attacked them. When we, the parents, questioned it we were told it would be handled only to be attacked when we were leaving by the “general manager”. She looked like she was looking for a confrontation. We were told we need to learn how to conduct ourselves, but all we said was that our girls didn’t stand on the toilet, also asked how this random man (employee we were later told) would know that they did. Did he look at them somehow?? We were literally attacked after spending $200. “We will greet you with open arms to return, but learn how to conduct yourselves”. Then she ran away without answering me when I asked how we didn’t conduct ourselves correctly. We didn’t do anything wrong. We weren’t loud. We didn’t get up except one time to use the restroom. I called multiple times when we left and was hung up on. That is why I’m posting here. My child said let me stand on the toilet after she saw a bug. She’s a girl. Get over it. She didn’t stand on it as my other child was using the toilet at the time. The general manager, if you want to call her that, attacked us and ran off when I asked what she was talking about. My kids are so upset after this experience. Not sure what actions will follow, but someone will answer me. Our waiter, however,...
