LONG comment, and I hope that the owner/manager/staff takes the time to read it. I would have probably rated this establishment higher had it not been for the quippy staff member who apparently didn't have the wherewithal to be proactive.
My first impression when I walked into the dining room was grim. There were tables that were not cleared, chairs all pulled away from the tables as if a dozen people left at the same time, and nobody had the common sense to push them back under the tables. It looked very disheveled. There was a server sitting down and wrapping utensils instead of clearing tables, and we took one of the several tables that needed to be cleaned.
Instead of the server putting down her utensils and napkins, wiping down the table, and saying, "Here are some menus and your server will be right with you," she just sat there, continued wrapping her utensils, and gave US the hairy eyeball while we just sat in obvious discomfort. FINALLY, after she disappeared out to the back and the dining room was devoid of any employee, I wiped down the table, myself, set the place mats and grabbed clean utensils. The gal returned and said, "You're hired. Know how to wrap utensils?" I just offered her a very weak smile because I wasn't amused. The correct thing to say would have been, "I'm SO sorry that you had to do that, ma'am. We're a little busy and here are your menus." Nope. She just tried to make lame jokes about it, and I was quite put-out and nearly left, at that point. This gal just didn't get the gist that she could HELP a fellow employee without compromising her tips. In other words, don't just sit there and stare at a coworker's customer! Get up and HELP your coworker!
The food almost made up for the dreadful first impression. Had I been the server, I would have probably figured out some way to compensate for my customer having to clean and set their own table. But, it went as it went.
Overall, Station House has good, decent food. It's a cozy place where locals gather to eat and it would have been comfortable but for the comedian staff member. I would strongly, strongly encourage the wait staff to never allow another customer to clean a table that they want to sit at, again, and to push chairs under the tables immediately after customers leave, even if they have to leave the table uncleared for a...
Read moreHired Station House catering for our wedding. They didn’t provide us with half of what we ordered.
Paid for Assorted pies, German chocolate cake and cheesecake. No pies were delivered and both cakes melted from being left in the 80 degree weather.
Paid for linens, China, glassware and silverware. Specifically said several times to Joyice over the phone “NO PAPER OR PLASTIC PRODUCTS”. What we got was paper dessert plates, a box of plastic forks for dessert that had the top ripped open, paper napkins and plastic party cups. Dinner plates, dinner silverware and water glasses were correct. Joyice said those are top quality paper products even though she knows I didn’t want them.
The food wasn’t kept on sterno’s so, no food safety protocols at all (same with leaving cheesecake out in summer heat).
Vegetarian dish was supposed to be stuffed shells. Served chicken fettuccine Alfredo in a styrofoam container.
Kids meal was also served to children in a styrofoam container.
Waitstaff was rude to my family, leftovers were left uncovered and in aluminum containers, they left an hour early and took all the drinks with them (again 80 plus degree weather in a barn venue).
To make matters worse after the wedding I called Joyice about these problems. She blamed us for her failure and also told me I never ordered pies or green-beans with almonds. She said she never uses sterno’s for outdoor events and they don’t stay the entire time of event. Would have been nice to know that before we hired them. What catering service doesn’t stay the full duration of the event?
I’ll add more photos of the food when my photographer...
Read moreI hired her for our wedding and the experience was wonderful. Everything before the wedding, going over food options and walking us through the procedures. The plates were wonderful, good ceramic plates and metal silverware. They provided clear plastic plates for desert that worked perfectly and was easy for us to clean up. The servers were great and very nice. They served us our food and assisted everyone else to get their food and describe what the food options were. As mentioned earlier when we hired her, the servers were not going to stay much longer after everyone was done eating, but they did a great job cleaning up and removing used plates from in front of everyone. All of my guests absolutely loved all the food they made and complemented it constantly. We have plenty of food left over, and never ran out of anything. We will be going back to this restaurant whenever we want a good meal and will be recommending this place to everyone! Joyce, thank you...
