This place is super cute and totally Montgomery lol. When we entered, we were greeted by the hostess who said, “Y’all tryna eat?” 😭💀💀👌🏽 Literally didn’t expect it and it was super funny and put us in a good mood before trying new food.
Digging into our food, we started with the calamari for our app. Those rings were thick here, boys 🫡 Bc of their thickness, they were extra chewy. For me, I was into it bc there was still a nice crunch on the outside, but my hubby wasn’t a mega fan. Still enjoyed it overall tho. We got fried gator bites with bacon cheddar grits and hushpuppies for one dish and seafood gumbo with a side of red beans and rice for the other. The nuggets weren’t too bad and went well with the grits. Hushpuppies were to die for so I ordered an individual side for later 😮💨 I originally wanted a shrimp poboy so I might go back and get one before we leave town bc it also looked banging 👀
I really appreciated that they had a true seafood gumbo. A lot of places in our part of the south use stock outside of seafood stock or they add chicken and/or sausage into pot, but this is a true seafood gumbo and it was super yummy! I added hot sauce to it and honestly wished I hadn’t bc it was better without in imo.
The red beans and rice were also really, really good. It’s one of my fave dishes of all time bc it’s so simple, yet sooo flavorful when done correctly. They were a little salty for my taste buuuuut even still I added some hot sauce bc I wanted more spice and the level of salt wasn’t the end of the world 🤷🏽♀️ To me, at its base, it wasn’t spicy at all, but if you don’t eat spicy food a lot or have a lower tolerance for the spicy pain reaction, i.e., black pepper is spicy for ya, it might be a little hot, but doable for your palette.
And, very importantly, dip those husbpuppies in everything. Dip them in the beans, dip them in gumbo, and open one up to stick a gator bite into it before throwing it back. I found that their flavor truly complemented a lot of things of the menu that we got.
Overall, it was a chill experience. They gave tvs with sports stuff on them and the space is very open, but it isn’t super loud in there even still. That’s a hard thing to achieve and I appreciate the acoustics as well since I have misophonia and a child in the spectrum. You could definitely bring kids here (there were two toddlers there in a few tables over and we knew they were making noise, but it was cancelled well naturally).
Totally forgot to take more pics beforehand bc I was excited to dig in 🥵 Can’t wait to try out other items on their menu...
Read moreIt is Alabama law that restaurants post the origin of the Catfish they sale. I did not see it posted anywhere in the restaurant so I inquired from the waitress as to the origin of the Catfish.
She politely stated she was unaware of the origin but she would ask the owner. She then returned stating the owner said that their catfish is US farm raised and from Mississippi. I felt relieved to hear that because many restaurants that don't post the origin of their catfish is because They are selling an alternative knockoff from either Vietnam called Sway, or from China called pangeas, both of which are cheaper versions and more cost-effective for the restaurant, But comes nowhere close to the texture or the true taste of US catfish. because restaurants were scamming customers with the sale of this cheap version of catfish which increases the restaurants revenue, the health department made it mandatory that restaurants post for customers to see the origin of their catfish so that the customer can make an informed decision as to whether they want to eat the type of fish being served.
after my order arrived at the table, and after taking the first bite out of the catfish prepared, I knew right off from the texture that it was not real US farm-raised catfish. This fake fish was soggy, had no texture at all. and I was not a happy camper about my experience from a restaurant with the name Seafood Bistro.
I expressedy concern to the waitress who was very polite and professional. She noticed that I had only eaten one bite and the remainder ws untouched. She then said let me see what I can do about the bill. (Bill was $29.97)
She then returned with a reply from the owner ( who refused to even speak with me). But simply stated that it is real catfish and he will not adjust the bill. This is a CAUTION TO ALL who visit this restaurant, keeping in mind all I van attest to is the Catfish. IT IS NOT US FARM RAISED. IT IS HORRIBLE! Dont even waste your time with that dish. My honest opinion is if they are cutting corners on the catfish, they are most likely doing the same with purchasing shrimp from other country's that are not under the same heath standard or guidlines as that of the United States.
One star is my review of this place because of how the owner handled the situation, and because of the lack of transparency, the origin of the Catfish not being posted. As a rule of thumb, if it is not posted, it is most likely because the fish is not from the...
Read moreWe attended a graduation meal, for a party of 15. There was only one waiter to serve the entire restaurant. I order a BLT salad with chicken and I request two eggs to be added to my salad; however I never received the eggs and I was told they do not come on the salad. Duhhh, when I placed my order I was willing to PAY extra for the eggs. Other members of our party received partial orders such as 1 piece of fish on a two fish plate with a handful of cold fries. Other members of our party meals were cold by time the waiter figured out who ordered what. Cold mac & cheese and cold fish is Not edible and shouldbe checked before ot is broughtout to a customer anticipating a hot meal. If your with a party of 5 or more they automatically charged 20% gratuity to your bill which for my boyfriend and I was an additional $14.83 for a salad minus the eggs again that I requested, a small cup of gumbo, a shrimp plate ,2 sweet teas and a hurricane to drink for a grand total of $80.89 . I could've easily spent that amount at Charles Anthony or Firebird's and fully enjoyed the meal. The experience wasn't enjoyable but the occasion was for a great cause. Our waiter was kind; however I blame the cooks for our...
