Went there tonight for the Valentine's Dinner Special they've been offering, our 4th year in a row for this special.
The reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars... My wife and I both got the Broccoli-Cheddar soup. It was good, not very hot (you didn't need to blow on it to cool down) and could have been cheesier, but tasted fine. My wife got the Caesar Salad, which came with Tomatoes and Black Olives, a first (I don't think it should have). I got the House Salad, but they brought the wrong dressing, which they caught as they brought it out and fixed. For the main dish, my wife got the Bleu Fillet, well done. It came out medium but was still pretty good. I got the Prime Rib Eye, medium. It was VERY good! Desserts- my wife got the Creme Brule, which was also REALLY good! I got the Chocolate Cream Cake, it was okay (dry and could have been richer in chocolate), my wife makes a better chocolate cake, I didn't even finish the cake.
A little disappointed that we got placed right at the front door, our 2nd time (of 4 years in a row) for the Valentine dinner. Also disappointed that service was a little slow. There were empty tables around our entire visit. It was maybe 3/4 full while we were there. The drink person was on the ball ... but it took at least 10min just to get the soup, maybe why it wasn't as hot as we expected? Also, our empty soup and salad bowls/plates sat on our table even after they brought the main dish. Eventually they took most of it except the one soup bowl until it went with the dinner plates when we were done with those.
We paid $67 (without the tip) for our meals. I would say, they were on their "B" game tonight.
We've been going to Johnson's Cafe for about five years now. Overall, very happy with the service and meals and we'll be there again, I hope they bring their "A"...
Read moreI have only eaten here once before during the summer and the lunch time food was amazing! I couldn't wait to go back and take a few friends with me. We had seven people our mashed potatoes were lumpy didn't come with butter or seasoning just plain potatoes. Our potatoes and green beans were barely even warm. I had battered haddock along with a friend and it was way too salty. My friend ordered the $30 meal which was filet mignon and she ordered it medium and it came well done. The appetizers are wonderful we really love the appetizers. But whoever was in the kitchen wasn't running the kitchen well to have seven dishes come out not perfect. My bill was $33 and I ended up taking home most of my food and it's sitting in the refrigerator. Both of us should not have had to even pay for much of anything. My friend ordered meat loaf stuffed with baked macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes with gravy. He got no gravy on his mashed potatoes and there was only a tablespoon of macaroni and cheese in his meatloaf. I would usually give someone a second chance but there is no excuse for most of these dishes to come out the way they did. Both of them shouldn't even have left...
Read moreWe stopped in today for the first time for lunch. The waitress had that Iâve done this for years attitude. Not the Iâm a professional and I appreciate your business attitude. No, you know the one where instead she had done the job far too long and was just going through the motions attitude. We both thought a burger sounded good and they offer a build your own burger option. Upon viewing an unfamiliar menu for the first time the waitress was clearly impatient and irritated with our questions. I did see that toppings like bacon and cheddar are extra but then she barked that lettuce, onion, and mayo are all extra. When I incredulously questioned that they actually charged extra for lettuce onion and mayo she again barked that âvegetables arenât cheap ya knowâ and walked away. So welcome to Johnsonâs Cafe where $9.89 gets you a bun and meat and every single item is an up charge. Seriously? I canât imagine why the bun isnât an up charge. Heck the plate should cost extra. We tracked the waitress down and told her we were leaving. No doubt she got a good chuckle about the poor folks that couldnât afford the luxury of lettuce or onion on...
