Visited 12/26/24 for lunch.
The restaurant wasn’t busy, and we were seated promptly. Our server was friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself was clean, though parking was minimal due to the location.
For my meal, I ordered the brisket dish, which came with waffle fries (I didn’t eat) and two sides. The brisket meal, priced at $18.50 for about 6 ounces, was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and enjoyable without barbecue sauce.
I appreciated being given the option of fatty or lean brisket and opted for lean. While the brisket itself was the highlight of the meal, I sampled their house-made sauces and found them underwhelming. The “not hot” sauce was very runny, and the mild sauce was only slightly thicker, lacking the richness I typically expect from barbecue sauces.
The sides were hit-or-miss. The macaroni and cheese was overcooked and bland, made with pre-shredded cheese, which often contains cellulose or wood fibers—a disappointing detail.
The “sweet” jalapeño cornbread was topped with honey, adding a nice sweetness, but the jalapeño flavor was barely noticeable. It’s unclear whether the honey was local or store-bought, but overall, the cornbread was decent.
Another person in my party ordered the Pick 2 Meats Platter, choosing pulled pork and pulled chicken. The pulled pork was dry, while the pulled chicken was unexpectedly seasoned and flavorful. The menu didn’t indicate that the pulled chicken would come pre-seasoned, which could surprise diners expecting a plain option to pair with barbecue sauce.
One positive note: another person in my group did enjoy the waffle fries even though they’re cooked in vegetable oil, saying they were perfectly cooked—crispy, not soggy or mushy.
Toward the end of the meal, something odd happened. The server encouraged the guests at a neighboring table to leave a Google review but didn’t ask us to do the same. This inconsistency felt strange and left an impression.
In summary, the brisket was worth trying, but at $18.50 for just 6 ounces, it felt overpriced, especially compared to other barbecue spots like Barbecue City, where a pound of brisket is $24. The menu leans heavily on pork options and could benefit from more variety.
While I wouldn’t return as an out-of-town visitor, I’d say it’s worth a try for locals who want to judge...
Read moreFood is always amazing every time. Ordered carry out for the very first time this evening and usually I always keep the bar pretty low in terms of food quality once you get home. You guys blew that bar out of the water. I ordered the ribs, with Mac and cheese and sweet cornbread. First when walking in the building I was smiled at by every waitress that saw me and was approached about an order pickup very promptly, by the time she walked to the back a new waitress was walking out with my order. Everyone is always so nice and polite. when I got home to eat, my order was exactly how I ordered and packaged extremely well. The ribs were melt in your mouth and the best ribs I’ve ever had. The portions were large enough I was able to share with my 2 small children who also couldn’t stop talking about how delicious everything was. We got the Apple egg rolls for dessert, I opted for the 4 rolls instead of the 2 with ice cream since I was doing carry out. Next time I dine in, I will definitely be ordering the 4 with ice cream 😉 It’s our new favorite dessert! I could go on and on about the wonderful service and spectacular food. Out of the 2 bbq places in Mooresville this one is absolutely top tier and the best one in...
Read moreSmok-N-Crew is a newer restaurant in Mooresville and so glad we stumbled onto it. First, the service is terrific. The young ladies are very attentive, friendly, and helpful. The atmosphere was inviting and at that particular time late afternoon/early evening, it was quiet enough we could carry on a conversation without having to yell. They are very family-friendly/kid-friendly and made an accommodation for my daughter because she did not see on the menu an item she wanted. While I normally enjoy my barbecue without sauce, savoring the smoke flavor of the meat, the brisket was a tad dry and did not have enough flavor on its own so I tried their regular sauce. The sauce was unique and had a good flavor which was a perfect addition to the brisket. I also tried the pulled pork and it was both moist and full of smoke flavor on its own. While they could probably use a couple more/different sides, the green beans, waffle fries, and mac and cheese were good. The prices were just a bit higher than other similar dining experiences but this is a convenient location for my family so with the service, atmosphere, and food, we will return. I definitely recommend...
