Great China — Restaurant in Morganton

So I was wanting something to eat when I got off at 9pm tonight and I saw this place was open till 10:30pm. I placed my order at 8:45pm so it would be ready by time I get off work. It’s only 8 minutes past 9 and I start getting a phone call. I answer and the lady just says “you coming or not?” I placed my order not even 25 minutes ago and I’m only 3 minutes away getting this call and when I stated yes I was almost there I was just hung up on. When I pull up I don’t know if this is just Morganton or the area but it smelled god awful outside (I’m pregnant so could just be the pregnancy nose) I go inside and they don’t even accept debit!!!! Wasn’t warned when I called to place the order, wasn’t told when they called me to say are you coming or not and there was 0 signs on the door stating they don’t take debit cards or anything online that I saw stating that either! I’ve worked 9 hours today I’m 8 months pregnant and did not care to find a damn ATM to go and get money out for this order where she was already rude to begin with!...

I found the menu online and ordered a quarter of sweet and sour chicken with fried rice for 8.75. The lady on the phone huffed at me in frustration when I asked if they had beef teriyaki sticks (didn't see on menu). I added that to the order. I get there and try to pay for my food with my debit card only to find out they Only Accept Cash. There wasn't any sign on the front entrance letting customers know this either! I had to take time and walk over to the grocery store and get cash back while my food just sat there. My total was 13 and some change so I paid an additional 4 dollars for TWO beef teriyaki sticks that were nothing like I've tasted from everywhere else. Had this weird red color to them. The rice was yellow and bland, not fried. The sweet and sour sauce was entirely waaayy too sweet and the only reason I'm doing 2 stars is for the chicken. Pretty hard to mess up separate breaded...

My wife an I get take out from Great China enough that I felt like I needed to review it. If you’re looking for a new place to try in Morganton to eat, this is it. They advertise Mandarin, Szechuan, Hunan and Cantonese. The Egg Drop Soup, Singapore Mayfun, Chicken On A Stick, Wontons and Eggrolls are must-haves. Also, my wife really enjoys their vegetable lo mein. We’ve independently heard from a couple people that their fried chicken is really good. We’re going to start trying different things on their menu because our “normals” are consistently great. I don’t really know what to say about the atmosphere. In my opinion, it’s not really an eat-in place even though, you could. They have a few decorations up and eating-in isn’t discouraged by any means. Thanks so much Great China staff for your...
