I had a wonderful late breakfast at Little Guatemala recently while visiting in the area. I had the Chapin plate which consisted of black beans, fried plantains, sausage, scrambled eggs and warm corn tortillas with a little drizzle of crema. Simple, beautiful, delicious and very satisfying. The coffee was amazing to say the least. The young woman at the counter was really very accommodating and kind. A very good experience as I'm not a morning person. The restaurant itself is attractive with a large covered deck at the back. They sell coffee which smells incredible. Little Guatemala reminds me of European cafés Ive experienced with the delicious, simplified menu and the focus on coffee. There's ample parking behind the business with a nice football (soccer) field to boot. If I lived in Morganton, NC. I'd make this place a regular stop to buy coffee as well as a bite to eat. If you're ever near this place grab a bite and check out the coffee. I found that they have a web site for their coffee. This...
Read moreI used to really enjoy both coming here for morning coffee, and suggesting it to others. Luz and Rigo were very nice and weren’t afraid of conversation. Christian used to be very hands-on.
Within the last few months, service and quality have dropped considerably. Going in for a coffee no longer meant waiting in line, but transitioned to waiting for a cashier to show up, sometimes waiting over ten minutes.
The rare times Christian is in the store, he’s almost unapproachable and is either overly stressed, or simply checked out. His demeanor is condescending and aloof.
The food quality has also dropped. Tostadas aren’t crispy, but stale or soggy. The coffee often has a burnt taste, and cream is no longer offered, just half & half and sweet cream.
I can’t recommend this place anymore, as they’re not operating as a friendly neighborhood coffee joint anymore. There’s other options fairly close who seem to want...
Read moreI stumbled into Little Guatemala excited to see a new coffee shop in the area. The aesthetics are warm and inviting with plenty of room to sit with well-thought-out arrangements. There are lounge areas, a bar, and tables for those working remote.
This place is huge and the people are genuine, serving each cup of reasonably priced coffee with their whole hearts. You can tell they're invested and not just college kids hired to staff the place.
I only visited for a short while but can tell there is a story here, and the staff are proud of their culture and what they bring to the Morganton area... Rightfully so. :)
My only complaints are there could have been some music to play softly in the background and I wish more people were frequenting this place.
