New to town and honestly, was hesitant about getting Compas b/c of the bad reviews, so initially opted in with AT&T DSL offering 75mbps, but was worried about speed since my wife and I work from home. So I went to local shops and venues to talk first hand to some residents to see their experience all said Compas internet is fast and reliable that seldom has any issues. So we cancelled with AT&T before the scheduled installation and went with Compas to choose the 200mbps package.
Had a great experience in the office with the ladies who guided me through installation process. Scheduled for 3-5pm where the technician shows up at 3pm; very knowledgeable, patient, and took the time to help/wait for the wifi network to be setup to test our devices before leaving.
It is a little early to give feedback, but I feel its had enough time to surface any issues. Honestly I can say I have no complaints and am even impressed with the service and speed. Even stands up to the AT&T fiber at 500mbps we had in Charlotte (but we do have a great router rather than the AT&T issued wifi router). In any case, it is as fast as any residential setup needs. I do regular speed tests throughout the day both 2G or 5G wifi and it is seriously fast and produces what I pay for almost most of the time. If it was any faster it would be time travelling. Only at one moment did it slow to 5mbps but this is the ONLY time it has done this and lasted for less than 10 seconds.
Still don't understand the negative reviews except that typically people are more apt to post a negative review before a positive one. I mean, when is the last time you wanted to post something positive about when the internet service was working or a similar service you have without giving much thought to it? I only posted the positive review here because I battled over whether I should go with Compas or not after reading the negative reviews and felt it wasn't accurate. If the reviews are from a legitimate experience, then possibly the cause for bad service could be their own wifi network (it is common) or there is something going on with the hub in their area. I'm rambling, but mostly b/c I'm happy after I found service since my livelihood depends on it and in this case, I have no complaints and...
Read moreI am writing out of sheer frustration and anger regarding the abysmal internet service your company provides. Despite your claims of offering speeds up to 1 Gbps, my experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. I am consistently facing slowdowns, outages, and interruptions that make it impossible to carry out even the most basic online activities.
What is truly infuriating is the fact that Compass Xtreme seems to hold a monopolistic grip over this region. Morganton residents, including myself, have no other viable option but to put up with your unreliable and pathetically slow service. Your dominance in this area reeks of exploitation—charging premium prices for a service that barely works half the time. The sheer arrogance of knowing that customers have nowhere else to turn is reflected in your complete disregard for service quality.
Let me be crystal clear: I am paying for fiber speeds that should reach up to 1 Gbps, yet the actual service I receive is often a fraction of that. Compass Xtreme has utterly failed to meet these advertised speeds, and judging by the flood of negative reviews online, my experience is far from unique. Frequent outages and unresolved technical issues seem to be the norm, and your customer service is grossly unresponsive.
You are not only failing as a service provider but taking advantage of a community by using your position as the sole provider. This is unacceptable, and I demand immediate action. Either improve your infrastructure and deliver on your promises, or I will escalate this issue with local authorities, consumer protection agencies, and I will not hesitate to push for alternatives to break this monopoly.
I expect an immediate resolution to this ongoing debacle. Your company’s negligence is both insulting and infuriating, and I refuse to pay for substandard service any longer.
Update: I have switched to starlink Internet service and highly recommend for anyone living within the city limits.
Consider this your...
Read moreI can’t begin to explain how disappointed I was when I learned Compas had a stranglehold on Morgantons internet provision. I left Valdese with a great experience with Spectrum and was hopeful that Compas could hold a candle to it. I was immensely let down by that hope. First off, what I pay now for 50 mbps from Compas is what I paid for 200mbps from Spectrum. Secondly, if your electronics are not directly connected by Ethernet to your modem, your internet connection will suffer greatly. I have a game console that can run competently on Ethernet but our Amazon Fire Stick and phones WiFi capabilities suffer greatly. Meanwhile, when you need to get in touch you better have fun being on hold, waiting to speak to ANYONE, for at least 30 minutes. Go ahead and throw your phone on speaker, crack open a book, and have a great time reading it while you hear static-laden stock piano music in the background. That being said, they do provide internet so that’s the sole reason why I gave them two stars and not a singular one. At least I pay 50$ a month for the opportunity to have access to internet. Maybe the reason they spell Compas with one S is because they didn’t have the bandwidth to...
