RESPONSE TO OWNER
You are correct - we would not accept another hamburger made by someone in your kitchen who was not wearing a hair net and risk another underdone entree. We would not accept a hamburger with pork mixed in that would come out any less than fully cooked.
Both my husband and I have worked in the food business for a number of years, both being responsible for preparing food, and we would never serve a hamburger mixed with pork (bacon) as pink as we were served yesterday. Maybe TX is more strict on their guidelines than NM? Had I served a burger like that, then simply thrown the patty back on the flat top, I would have been fired on the spot with no questions asked. Had it been a completely new patty, even a different bun, lettuce, or onion, we likely would not have reacted how we did.
Your cook took an undone hamburger with bacon off a bun, the juices leaking onto the lettuce and onion, and PUT IT BACK TOGETHER. In our minds, this is never acceptable, and I recommend speaking with your cook about food safety or for you, not being stingy and placing a second hamburger on contaminated vegetables.
The fact you were unable to see that as an issue is what secures when we roll back through town, we will not be stopping. We stand by our review.
ORIGINAL REVIEW
I WISH Google allowed for zero stars. Came here to have lunch on the way to Albuquerque from our last stop in Roswell. Husband's hamburger "The Duke" came out extremely underdone. We sent it back asking for it to be cooked more throughout. When the dish came back, my husband saw a bite out of the patty - these yahoos brought back THE EXACT SAME PATTY! I don't know how this whole food health code stuff runs in NM, but in TX, a brand new patty would have been made and sent to the table. When we protested, a man I assume is the owner, came to the table and argued with my husband and I. At that point, we all (three of us) got up and left. I paid $30 for two half-eaten meals, and suppose I should be thankful they didn't charge us for a twice-cooked hamburger.
DO. NOT. STOP. HERE!
We came here because it was highly recommended by locals online....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNOT COVID SAFE! And Online orderers beware. If you have any concerns at all about the ongoing pandemic, stay away, even for takeout (which we had ordered). About half the staff wears masks, some only use them as chinstraps, and others not at all. There is a big sign at the entrance declaring that they do not enforce the governorās mask mandate. Given that the US President is currently hospitalized for this disease that has taken the lives of over 210,000 American citizens, this seems to me to be a seriously cavalier position about their customersā health. I do not think that they recognize that wearing a mask is mostly to protect others, not themselves. It makes me wonder if this carelessness translates to other health standards of their business, such as kitchen or staff cleanliness. I had to enter the restaurant to pick up our food since it was an online order and I had already paid for it. They did not get the order correct. I ordered the chicken fried steak dinner and requested gravy on the side. The gravy was poured over everything making the steak a bit soggy by the time I ate it It was missing a side order of a vegetable and a side of hush puppies. The stuffed potato was missing a chili topping. The flavor of the food was just OK - maybe 2.5 stars, but it really should not be that hard to get an order right. Most importantly, for a business that serves the public, perhaps hundreds of different people a week, I cannot fathom why public safety is of seemingly little to no concern. I want to support local businesses and keep our economy alive, but I will not return and risk bringing a deadly disease home from this restaurant...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I recently ate breakfast at your resturant. Of the 2 chili hills resturants in the area this is our favorite one to go to. But the new owners have made too many bad decisions too only benefit themselves. We ordered heuvos ranchers. I had over medium, green, and a flour tortilla. First of all, the tortilla was tasteless and cheap, the ones I make at home taste much better than those. I asked for extra crispy hashbrowns and they were not and never are. The icing on the cake was the WHOLE meal had the of black pepper and only black pepper. I HATE black pepper. You know it's too strong when you can't even taste that NM green chili. My husband ordered the same thing but w/o hashbrowns because they are never cooked properly, but asked for extra cheese Instead. He got his ordered but we were charged for the cheese and the hashbrowns we didn't get. He was asking for extra cheese instead of the hashbrowns . Waitress was new, but that's nothing new. They have new people constantly or short handed making their seasoned employees open and close. We can't continue going back if this continues. But on the other note, it beats seeing pigeons in the rafters of the roof( that is visible) while you eat or bones on...
