Chase & Charli — Restaurant in Mount Airy

The place smalls bad... After our day trip of fishing and seeing the sites in Mt Airy, we decided a have dinner before driving home, so we chose this establishment after reading many positive reviews. The first impression I received upon entering this restaurant was the odor. Upon entering the restaurant it smelled of old frying oil and an unpleasant cooking smell that was an instant turn off. I should’ve have listened to my inner voice that said “if it smells this bad it can’t be good”. BUT after all the good reviews I’d read, we decided to give it a try. BIG. MISTAKE. There were 3 of us in my party, and we started with the pizza rolls appetizer which was pretty good but we could tell they had come frozen from a package and prepared in the deep fryer. For entrees, I ordered the Korean wrap which was tough beef, drowned in Sriracha combined with a sickly sweet BBQ sauce, soggy fried onions and a wrap so saturated in sauce it fell apart when picking the sandwich up, gross. MY DH ordered a burger that was overcooked and soggy also. My son ordered the marinated chicken strips with fries. Once my son received the chicken I knew right away what that horrible odor was, the marinade that the chicken had soaked in because they had that same horrible smell. He said I can’t eat this, I thought they can’t be that bad, so I tried a piece. Inedible. The taste was too salty, with an aftertaste that tasted like ashes had been mixed into the marinade. Edit: 8/14/2025: had dinner here with friends. Service was ok. Food was maybe 3 stars at Best. Second time in a month and the food just isn't that good. So we get the bill and go to pay. Bill was $37.91 for credit card, $36.66 for cash. I left $5 tip on table; I paid with 2 20s ($40). The young lady gave me $3 back. When I asked about my coins, she said they round up and don't give change. It's only 34 cents, but it is MY 34 cents. Our pocket change goes into savings for our grandson. So I see that as stealing.

If this is a joke, they didn't share with me. Otherwise, they stole my money. I didn't see a sign of any sort telling of this policy. I used cash to save the fees that places charge because they can. I don't want my change back because that would mean stepping foot back in that place. I hope that the money goes to good use. I'll never return and will tell everyone I can that they should avoid the place.

1:10 pm 12/1/2017: Table was sticky. Server took our order, never came back to check or tell us why it was taking so long. 6 people in the restaurant when I got there. 2 had been served and 4 were ordering. Food came out 30 minutes after we got there. Had to get it boxes and bring it back to work. I'm just getting to the food. While traveling through NC, I ate here with my parents and it was a smashing success! The place is clean and very well maintained. My mom had the fish tacos, my dad had the hamburger steak, and I had the Swiss and mushroom burger. All of the sides, asparagus, mushrooms, rice & beans, onions and peppers, homemade gravy, vegetables, etc were excellently prepared, gourmet, and the chef was very accommodating and took care of all of our peculiar requests. You can tell they care about their guests and they take pride in the quality of their food. Prices were so reasonable too! I figured the food was good enough that even though I was stuffed and didn’t want sugar, I had to try the homemade cakes they offer. My mom had the dreamsicle and I had the hershey bar. Sure enough, the cakes did nothing to disappoint- every complaint I ever have about cakes (too dry, don’t taste homemade, too much or too little frosting) was silenced. The cake melts in your mouth. The flavor was perfect, natural, and not too sugared. It didn’t even need frosting, although the frosting was good too. I could have eaten 5 pieces.
