Am embarrassed to say I moved here near 4 hrs ago and have never eaten here. Was in the mood for a piece of fish tonight and just astounded at the prices at the "seafood restaurants " on door dash! $18-20 for a fish plate! Guess I've just been spoiled after 16 yrs in Baton Rouge with seafood do fresh it will bite you! So I searched for fish on door dash and up popped speedy chef! Well, $12 for a flounder plate- not a cheap white fish- and I was able to choose my TWO sides!! So, give them a try! Well, my order arrived here in 12, that's TWELVE minutes and hot as a biscuit!! Piece of flounder that stretched from side to side of my plate, onion rings the size of a baseball and crinkle fries just right!! OMG!! Then I discovered these delish little hush puppies nesting under my fish! What a delight!! Fish was fried absolutely perfect! Always seems to be under/over done at the big seafood place here in town.... So, if you haven't figured it out yet, I am a solid believer now! Thank you Speedy Chef for a wonderful meal and I will be back 4 sure! (Ok.... I'll send the door dash guy, but...
Read moreThis was our third stop in Mt Airy to compare cheeseburgers with chili, mustard and slaw. We were getting full from the other burgers we sampled, so we split one at this location. Speedy Chef was the only restaurant that used a char-grill vs a flat top griddle, so the burger had an outdoor cooked flavor and crispy edges. We liked that. We also noticed the cheese was more melty on this burger than the other two locations we tried. The chili and the burger had a good flavor, but the slaw needed to be chopped a bit finer for my tastes. We also tried the hot fudge cake while there…and it was delicious. There are plenty of tables and chairs and since it wasn’t very busy, it wasn’t noisy inside. There is plenty of parking. Overall, a solid place for a cheeseburger and worth a try. We decided this Speedy Chef had the second-best...
Read moreSpeedy Chef has been a Mount Airy staple since 1978, and walking inside feels like stepping back in time in the best way possible. The wood paneling on the walls and the old-school vibe give it a nostalgic charm that’s hard to find these days. But don’t let the retro look fool you—this place is still serving up some of the best food around.
Their burgers and ground steak sandwiches are absolutely delicious—juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. It’s comfort food at its finest. And if you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’re in luck. They offer an awesome variety of desserts, from thick, creamy milkshakes to perfectly built ice cream sundaes.
Speedy Chef is a perfect mix of old-school charm and great food that keeps people coming back decade after decade. It’s a must-visit when you’re...
