The Copper Cow — Restaurant in Mount Carroll

Did a reservation for an event -in Feb, 23 unfortunately for unforseen reasons, canceled March, 23. This has been a very uneasy process as they will not refund my first payment of 2300.00 do to canceling. The owner refuses to reason with how the Contract is written and continues to go by pre final numbers- imaginary amount of guests which was never finalized. Per contract I had until July 20th to give a final head count to finalize the price. However they don't care. They ignored my written letter and never replied per contract. Ignored 6 phone calls and voice messages. Assuming this is to keep a higher % of the money due to timing and cancelation. That's theft at its finest.

Now, I agree some of the money is rightfully theirs- approx 560.00 is the amount they're entitled to. Finally the owner cuts me a check for my refundable deposit in the mail, then puts a freeze on it. A dispute has been made at this point since this owner doesn't understand their own contract and talks about information that isn't physically in the contract but on on their website and Facebook page? That's not legal or finalized.. but holds me to that advertisement that was never brought up or agreed to.

In the end, just be cautious of this place and doing buisness with them they're as greedy to keep your money as any business.

Also, I recommend this business create last minute contracts. As the contract I signed states that if I cancel with in 6 months of the event then they get to keep % of money. However my event was made with less than 6 months. Seems pretty obsolete.

To the reply- You did receive a letter also confirmed delivery- We did speak to an employee Emily that ensured the manager would call back. Never did. You received many other calls also, even from other family members, which none received calls back. You're saying I can't rent your upstairs for 1500. Unless I bought food packaged. Which isn't in the contract anywhere- the dispute was filed weeks prior to any of you reaching back out. It's not my fault that the buisness you run doesn't understand process. Or perhaps never trained on such a topic. If you would have answered my letter or calls or letter months ahead of time the dispute wouldn't have happened. Also this isn't a threat this is a review of a bad experience in which youre buisness neglected to handle properly. It's not about the contract it's the fact that there are many lies about my letter and calls- and that the upstairs wasn't 1500, and that my final amount on the contract was never final due to never giving a final head count- which the contract states I have until 2 weeks prior. The head count is 0- now I over paid and you're not returning money over paid- you're keeping gratuity payments, you're keeping tax payment.. and the check was 50% you're entitled to 560- you don't get to keep the rest as you're numbers are not final. The only piece that was final was the property at 1500- now 66% of that is 510. You're keeping 2300? I'm confused and I'm sure anyone in my position would be also-

My family of seven randomly chose to eat here by looking up food places near us. We wanted to go somewhere we've never been and The Copper Cow was chosen. Although there was only one other table with people at it, we enjoyed it very much. The restaurant was clean and temperature was perfect.

We originally chose a high top, but when one of my kids started to have back pain we asked to switch to a table. Our waitress was wonderful and was accommodating without judgment. HUGE plus in our book!! She got a nice tip 😉

Everyone chose to eat something different and we ordered three different appetizers. Everyone's meal was delicious and even the kids are excited to go back. Food is certainly recommended!

We'll definitely be back to try other things! Our son's girlfriend is already planning to talk with her parents about going there for...

Excellent wonderful mom and pop kind of place Mount Carroll located right behind the grocery store on the highway just a fabulous wooden Barn like structure heavy beans Etc the smell of I should say the fragrance of cedar wood just beautiful interior and service also wonderful lunch there my oh my the hand breaded mushrooms just the best and everything else we had it was just great I think they need to sign on the highway it's probably a lot of people don't know about that little Hideaway. I wish him well in their business and the chef is excellent totally dedicated it was fun to be there thank you so much good day we will return. Got to post a note here at Lake Carol here which is close by lots of people going to frequent that place I'm sure...
