Today, my husband, our 3-year-old, and I stopped into a cafĂ© after lunch next door. The name states âcafĂ© & pastry,â but I noticed they also served savory food, such as fried chicken, which explained the slightly smoky atmosphere inside.
I ordered a coffee, my husband chose a chocolate chip cookie, and we selected macaroons for our child. The barista didn't wear gloves but did use tongs to retrieve the items from the pastry display case. While waiting for my coffee, I looked more closely at the display case and noticed three pieces of cake on the top shelf that had visible mold.
When the barista handed me my coffee, I quietly informed her so as not to cause a scene, mentioning that the cakes had mold. She explained that those cakes were just for display. I pointed out they were in the same case as the other items. She said that the other pastries were baked fresh the day before. I again expressed concern that the moldy cakes were still in the same confined case as the other treats, without any separation. She just looked at me. I said 'okay' nonchalantly and walked back to my family.
For a business that displayed a health code rating of 100, it's concerning that they don't know mold is an airborne contaminant that poses health risks. Having molding items in the same display case as the items you sell to customers,...
Read moreWhat a gem in Mt. Holly! The hostess is a sweetheart, and is very fun to chat with. What a warm and welcoming environment! A solid variety of coffee options, and some tasty food to boot! Their âmake your own breakfastâ bowl was delish; I enjoyed the hash browns, eggs, cheese, spinach, & avocado. They have these little cutie blueberry muffins, too, which are a sweet treat. The cinnamon pinwheel hit the spot, and Iâm stoked to share this baklava with my fam. Itâs my brotherâs familyâs fave spot to eat breakfast sammies! The pastry selection is unique; they even have beignets & macrons. The pink and green decor w/ the plants is cute. Overall, such a delight to enjoy & begin my day with! Come check it out, yâall, theyâre a great locally owned and operated restaurant! Mt. Holly should do them more justice with advertising by the road; since the shopping area in which theyâre located is pushed back a ways, itâs harder to see their storefront, which does them a disservice because theyâre so great. Thank you, Passionâs Cafe & Pastry, for making my visit to town so positive! Lookinâ forward to trying the rest of your menu! Yâall have a blessed...
Read moreI called in my order of shrimp and grits the lady who answered said 20 - 25 minutes I arrived a little after 25 minutes my order still wasn't ready. The cashier said another 5 minutes. It took 40 minutes to receive my call in order of shrimp and grits and I did not like the shrimp and grits, it wasn't enough seasoning for me. Also there was a sign that says free coffee with purchase of a breakfast sandwich, I asked if it only applies to the breakfast sandwich or if I can have a coffee with my order while I wait and the cashier went to check with the cook or manager and said sorry you'd have to purchase a breakfast sandwich for the free coffee. I would get it because that's the deal but it should have still been offered for the inconvenience of the wait. Also the portion size was so small. Totally not worth the money or the wait, I had to add some salt when I got back home. I try to support black owned businesses but you actually have to be ready for the demand. Waiting 40 minutes for shrimp and grits and not offering a beverage for the wait was insane. My first experience wasn't a good one so I won't...
