I'm shocked that this establishment has such high reviews. Our visit was mostly disappointing. Parking is on a hill (as is expected by the name) but seems limited. The location is primarily a bar with limited food options on the menu. The kids menu prices are a slightly overpriced, $7 for 5 dino nuggets and tater tots. The adult food is not competitively priced either, $15 for an unimpressive burger and tater tots. It took about 40 minutes for us to get all our food with the kids food and our friends food coming out at about 25-30 minutes upon ordering and ours taking the extra 10-15 minutes for burgers. The place wasn't busy either, so it's pretty unclear why it took that long. The food I did receive, the burger was unique in that it was only meat, cheese, grilled onions, pickles, sauce and a homemade bun, but it did not stand out. Really some lettuce and tomato would have drastically improved the burger. The cheese was also burnt and I had to remove the extra cheese coming off the burger. The tater tots I received were crisps, no potato or moisture left in them (they must have cooked for 40 min) and it was the same amount that each kid meal received. The kids tater tots and dino nuggets were fine, showing inconsistency in their cooking. The outdoor seating area has weather tables which have rough and splintered wood planks. There are umbrellas for shade but the umbrella base that we had at our table was not filled with water or weighted at all so the umbrella easily fell over. I had to look for some pavers to help hold it down. The only positive thing about this establishment is that they have a large open space for the kids with some playground equipment. The kids and their friends had a great time playing.

This place is not far from my house, we drive by it all the time, and have always wanted to stop. Time is usually not on our side as a few times we have tried to go, they were closed and in the case on Sunday's the close at 4. I am a simple man, and when it came time to decide what to do for Father's Day, I only had one request, and that was to make the time to eat at Hillside Hangout. Parking was easy, and the decor is not much different that any other bar or restaurant. They have a stage for singers and bands (this is Nashville after all), lots of seating. Full Bar and plenty of seating outside as well. It was too hot, so it was inside for us all the way. The counter was walk-up, you place your order, get a number and grab a seat. We were met at the counter by Jess, she was super friendly and welcomed us. I immediately ordered the special, it was at the Dr. Frankenstein Burger. Smash patties, with crispy onions and jalapeños, cheese and maybe a sauce of some sort. My wife ordered a breakfast quesadilla. We also ordered a libation called the Pink Pony Club. It was good. a bit refreshing especially with the sangria in it. Very good. The burger was AMAZING. I was in the mood for a burger for Father's Day and this hit the spot. Cooked to perfection, the bun was really soft, because it was a smashburger it did not leave me stuffed beyond belief, and the option for the side salad instead of fries was certainly a good decision. Great vibes at this place, just a chill hangout. It was a great first visit and would certainly be back. If you never get a chance to make a 1st impression they hit this one out of the park. Jess, thanks for a wonderful 1st visit.

We made our first visit to Hillside Hangout Friday and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere is very laid back with live music inside, plenty of seating, and plenty of shade and picnic benches outside. There are a few pieces of playground equipment for kids and plenty of grass area to run and play. They have plenty of draft/craft beer choices to enjoy if that's your thing. For food, we had the pretzel appetizer and it was a hit! Not a crumb was left. For meals, everyone had burgers with me having the Moose burger and my wife having the Whiskey Jam burger. Both were very fresh and very good, but we would give a slight nod to the Moose burger. We all had fries as our side that everyone enjoyed. The only downfall for us was the volume of the live music inside. Due to the space and having the music right in our ear, we elected to sit outside. Even being above 90 degrees it was still pleasant in the shade. Overall, this restaurant is excellent, we highly recommend, and can't wait to come back!
