Ole Hickory Inn — Restaurant in Mount Pleasant Township

If you are looking to get the sense of the local vibe of a neighborhood, this is just the place. I was in the town of Hickory, PA, for a play just a mile or so down the road, and you can tell by the sign outside that this spot has been part of the fabric of the town for quite some time.

There are a few parking spots directly next to the restaurant, but more likely you are going to park in the large parking lot across the street; just be careful as cars are coming quickly as you cross as this is Route 50, a major highway. It’s cozy and quaint inside, with interesting wall decorations and a rustic old fireplace. There are a couple of videogame machines, and I read that they even have trivia nights here. Tables are very close together, some with chairs and some with cozy round bench seating, which occasionally makes it a bit awkward as you find yourself looking directly at your neighbors and overhearing their conversations a bit more than you might like. However, this also kind of adds to the neighborly vibe. There’s also a full bar area which was quite busy.

Service is incredibly sweet, helpful and efficient! My server was quick to provide recommendations and was always spot-on. The burgers and quesadillas are big sellers here, and both were great choices. We didn’t try the wings, although those seem to be big sellers as well. I was surprised by how many things are housemade, from the bleu cheese and ranch dressings to the potato chips. The food here is solid and it’s clear the team takes a lot of pride in providing high-quality items and a good experience.

This is also conveniently located to Star Lake, and the quality makes it not surprising it’s stood the test of time as a neighborhood institution. It’s good pub food with great service and a solid pick...

Hands down, without hesitation, the best fish on Friday I have ever had!! Other foods are good, but with the fish they knock it out of the park!!!!! If you haven't eaten fish here on Friday you are missing out! Rarely do I give 5 stars. I am so happy that The Ole Hickory Inn is under new management and has a new cook / chef. Several weeks ago my son and I had the chicken piccata and the whole dinner was excellent. One day I stopped in and had the reuben sandwich and was very pleased. Last Friday we had their fish and shrimp dinner specials and we're very pleased again.
