La Taquiza Guadalajara — Restaurant in Mount Pleasant

I’ve recently moved from the west coast to Wisconsin and was tired of the fake white people mexican food with no flavor drowning in tomatoes and lettuce. Was looking for something authentic after having gone to so many disappointing places. This place hit the mark!!! It’s the most authentic Mexican food I’ve found here in the Midwest and took me back home without needing to travel! The beans infused with chorizo, the most consistent rice I’ve found in any restaurant! The tacos tasted just like they’re from the streets of Guadalajara and the salsas tasted so fresh!! I’ve always been of the opinion that a restaurant should do the basics right and care about the food they put out and this place does the basics right! That’s not even touching on the fact that Cabeza tacos are a hard thing to get right and whoever is on the grill gets it right! Definitely coming back especially when I’m home sick. Our visit to La Taquiza was not planned, but we're sure glad we stopped in for dinner. The three of us all ordered the Birria Plate, so I can only relay the opinions of one dish. Thankfully, it was five stars all around. The meat was tender and the portion was healthy. The beans and rice that came with the dish didn't taste like your average "Mexican" restaurant's usual sides. There was an actual flavor to the rice! The beans were quite tasty! The dish comes with corn tortillas and they were also above-average in quality. The drink prices were fair and well crafted from the small bar inside this clean and bright restaurant. The freshly made sauces were outstanding, and they're served in squeeze bottles, making it so easy to spread. The staff is friendly, and we didn't feel rushed on a Saturday evening. We came in later on a Friday evening. The bar was packed and tables full. Y’all!!!! Being from Chicago our standards are high when it comes to service and good food. This is a family owned restaurant and they knocked it out of the park. The house margaritas are on point! The best I’ve had in a LONG time! We ordered the special- Smash Burger Birria and Fries along with the Birria Ramen. We were AMAZED at how delicious the food was and how great the service was. This will be our Friday night go to in Racine. I can’t wait to try Brunch. I almost hate leaving such a great review, because I know by Summer time there will be a line out the door.
