My family and I were in town for my grandfather's funeral, and decided to stop in to taste a local establishment before we left town.
I thought the food was just below adequate and just above overpriced. My expectations of most student bars are low, however, and I realize that I may have enjoyed my meal had I purchased a beverage (or two...or three...four?) from their small draught list.
I would give two stars had it not been for our service. Our waiter, Avery, was attentive and very friendly. His conversation and humor lifted our spirits during a difficult time. He answered our questions with ease and was a surprising benefit to our meal. My family owns a small corner of our city's hospitality industry and I would jostle him on a plane to California if able. It is not easy to find personable and hardworking employees, and certainly not employees that embody both of those traits.
I do not consider myself fortunate in that I have to visit Mt. Pleasant from sunny San Diego later this year, but I will happily recommend and visit here when I do, at least just for...
Read moreThe pizza (large, tomato + jalapeno) had a pretty good flavor and appearance for a college pizza joint, but the crust was a bit undercooked - we could see the raw portions. We did enjoy it enough to finish.
The problem was the service. There were very few customers there (Tuesday, 5:30-6:30pm) but our server seemed quite disinterested. In addition to barely making eye contact, not smiling, and not checking in on us, she spilled water while filling up our glasses. Not only did she not apologize or wipe it up - she didn't even acknowledge it. I got water on my phone, but luckily it was upside down with a case on so there was no damage.
It seems that another day would have produced a different result, so I understand the higher reviews.
Another concern is that for a college location in Michigan, it was sad to see there were no craft beers on tap, just the standard Bud/Miller/Coors crap. A place like this is perfect for Dark Horse, Bell's, Founders, Great lakes, and especially the...
Read moreThe Cabin is where me and my girlfriend managed to finally have our first post lockdown date. I'm from the UK so we haven't seen each other in 18 months until last week. She decided to take me to her local bar to give me a full American welcome back experience. This place did not disappoint, incredible live country music, US sports on all the TVs and the locals provided a roaring atmosphere all night long. The Cabin provided everything I'd missed about American dining and more, I felt right at home straight away. The food was fantastic, I'll be recommending grinders from the Cabin to all my friends here and back home in England as I just loved every mouthful. It even tasted great the day after for lunch! The servers were top notch too, very friendly and gave quick service which is always a bonus. I guess my company was pretty good too so that helped! We'll definitely be back soon. Thanks...
