This place is a disgrace. The many of the professors refuse to meet outside of their office hours, even when their office hours are during another class.
As of now I can count no less than 10 broken vending machines on campus, some that haven't been fixed in 4 months! I've called both CMU and the vendors, and neither one wants to fix the machines. I guess they don't want to make money.
The parking meters aren't maintained. I found one of the only available parking spaces near the Univerity Center. It was filled with quarters so much that it couldn't accept any more, so I was unable to pay my meter. You supposedly can pay with an app, but it's only available for iPhone, and I have an android, so i want able to pay that way either. I came out to find I had been ticketed for not paying for a space (I didn't have a student pass at the time). This is an absurd business practice.
The bathrooms smell like urine all the time, especially in Pearce Hall and Engineering Technology buildings. I have found the same filth left on the toilets in the bathrooms several days in a row. Considering the volume of traffic, those bathrooms should be cleaned twice a day, but at least once a day.
The engineering building is the most frustrating sight on campus. When it rains heavily multiple buckets are used to catch the leaks inside the building. There are almost no places to plug in your phone or laptop because there aren't enough electrical outlets in the common areas, and of the ones that are present, many aren't working or are broken. The only reprieve is an extension cord that someone plugged into the cooling of the first floor to access from the common area on the second floor. Otherwise, in order to charge your phone or computer, you have to sit on the floor like a child playing with his toys because the only outlets available are in the middle of a hallway and are meant for maintenance for cleaning rather than students. Basically, you will not find working electrical outlets in the same place as seating areas on campus.
All of the sectional furniture in engineering should have been replaced 5 or more years ago, it's all stained and broken down or torn to the point that goodwill probably wouldn't accept it. There are no study rooms in the entire building, making it hard to find places to work on group projects without leaving to make room for a class. The printers in this building are a joke. Most of the ones in the classrooms are blinking because they are out of toner, paper, or just gave up on life. When they are working they often aren't accessible to student accounts and I have to go to the front office to print, except that I have to convert whatever I need to print into a pdf because that's all it accepts. I guess it's too much to expect when they don't even know how to install the door stops in the correct place to...eh...stop a door.
I will amend this review when I see that my tuition dollars are being used effectively demonstrate basic maintenance and upkeep on campus. Since no one is interested in fixing the problem, hopefully posting here will make this more of a priority for Central...

There's so many things wrong with this college. I couldn't possibly list them all.
I will start off by saying all they care about is your money.
I've had professors email me saying I wasn't "worthy" to be in their class. The reasoning: I was on suicide watch. It was hard for me to be there all the time. I've told them this, yet they don't care. All they see is "excuses." None of them even tried to work with me. It was either I somehow magically become un-suicidal or they fail me. Guess which one it was.
I am a poc (person of color). The RACISM there is INSANE. While the diversity there is better than I expected, the racism comes along with it.
I was a psychology major. I loved it until CMU ruined it with their awful psych classes. ASL was my minor. It is expected that we only speak with our hands, right? That was definitely the case. I was struggling with it, so I asked if I could meet after class to get some help in English rather than in ASL, and they refused. I personally think that's insane. After hours is not classroom time. We should be able to speak verbally if it is more convenient. I am by no means fluent in ASL, so how is that going to work? It makes no sense.
I was lied to about my student balance. I was told I paid everything off MONTHS AGO, yet I just got notified that I owe THOUSANDS. You can imagine the frustration I felt when I learned this. I made many phone calls to get to the bottom of it. Some of the people I spoke with were EXTREMELY rude. Shout out to Denise. She was very nice and helpful. Even after all of the phone calls, nothing more could be done about it, so I am stuck paying MORE money. It's amazing how even months after leaving CMU, they still found ways to drain my pockets.
I was thinking about going back once my mental health and financial situation improved, but I will NEVER go back to CMU.
I wish I could leave zero stars. The only thing CMU has is a nice-looking campus. You can find nice views elsewhere. Save yourself the mental warfare and...
