This is a mixed review, hence the three stars. I got the combination platter which has fried fish (I got the trout), scallops, clams, shrimp, a crab cake, homemade french fries, coleslaw and a couple pieces of white bread.
The good: Pretty good pricing for the quantity of food that you get. If I hadn't been so hungry, I probably could have made the combo platter in to two meals. The fries were definitely homemade, they are half circles covered in fish batter and deep fried. They were however, just good in my opinion, but not great. All the seafood, save for the crab cake, had a nice light and crispy batter on it. I think the fish was the star of the meal but the shrimp were also pretty good.
The bad: Although the batter on the seafood was light and crispy, it was lacking flavor. This was especially noticable on the scallops which didn't really taste like much of anything. Although I liked the fact that the fried clams weren't the standard frozen clam strips that you get everywhere, I didn't like the fact that there was so much grit in them. I know clams can be gritty sometimes, but this was pretty unappealing. By far the weakest part of the platter was the crab cake. For the price of the platter, I didn't expect a particularly good crab cake but I thought it would at least have fake crab as filler. This crab cake was pretty bad and I think most of it was just greasy breading. I'd steer away from the crab cake unless they have a proper lump crab cake that is priced like one. Finally, both their tartar sauce and cocktail sauce are not very good. Their tartar sauce is in packets and is essentially just mayonnaise and their cocktail sauce is more like a vinegary ketchup.
I'd go back again but probably stick with the...
Read moreBe careful because the people there cooking your food and bagging your food up to go do not use gloves. I also, noted the people who gut, clean, wash and rinse your fish don't wear gloves either. That is why I never call my order in over the phone. I don't usually have a problem because I only order their perch filet sandwich. However, tonight was a problem I felt sick after eating just a small amount of it and I called Mike the owner to let him know. I think it wasn't fresh, he gets fresh fish every Thursday but this is his slow season and I believe he put the old stuff on top and the new stuff on the bottom. I thought it seem to me like he had more perch than normal today. I more than likely will not go back there anymore even though he apologized. If you do go insist that they give you fish that's buried more to the miiddle- bottom of the ice not near the top. I am pretty sure the fish more close to the top is their older fish. It's sad because in all the years that I have been going there I have never gotten sick but I never cheat my stomach and ain't nobody else is going to cheat it either. No...
Read moreI go to Potomac fish house every time I visit Maryland to get traut, hush puppies and fried broccoli. I haven't found any place other than this place that serves fried broccoli so I order fried broccoli to carry back to North Carolina. I must say for the very first time I watched mamasan drop shrimp on the floor, pick them up off the floor and put them with the other shrimp that she was weighing for a customer. My sister was sitting out in the car waiting on me to pick up our call in order and called me on my cell to ask me if she saw what she thought she saw! I had to laugh because I thought I was the only one that saw that! It was dark outside but I was surprised that she saw through the glass window what I had witnessed. Her remark was I know I didn't just see that lady drop shrimp on the floor and pick it up and put it on that scale! A second question was is our order completed? I would still go there to purchase but I would have to be in the store the next time just so I can see what...
