L.A. Cafe — Restaurant in Mountain Grove

Servers appeared to be HS kids. They seemed too not understand what a server does. They didn’t refill drinks, didn’t check on you, didn’t know really what was on the menu, and said “sometimes it’s good and when it is it’s really good”. The food tasted frozen (and for too long), fries were good. Servers had horrible attitudes!

I have never had a bad experience at LA cafe. It's always a pleasant place to have a meal. Prices are very reasonable and the food tastes great. Having said that I do have a personal preference about onion rings. The onion rings they serve have way too much corn meal in the batter for me. The friend I was dining with liked the cornmeal. I just didn't care for so much of it in the batter. It sounds like such a trivial thing but it's kind of a big deal to me and what I like to eat. We arrived expecting a nice American cafe, but it was so much more than that. The breakfast gravy had the perfect amount of sausagy nuggets in it. The fried pork tenderloin was sweet with a balanced savory black pepper tang. The over medium eggs were actually over medium!! That is a rarity with cafes. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and lofted.

The service was perfect. Our coffee was always warm. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. Lots of kitschy decor juxtaposed with quarter-sawn oak planking felt right for this place. It is located on a well-maintained town square. 80s music rounded...
