If you haven't tried The Salty Farmer in Moweaqa, DO IT! I love horseshoes and am very picky about them. Usually I'd say that Darcy's has the best, but my opinion has changed. The Salty Farmer's breaded buffalo chicken horseshoe is the very best horseshoe that I've ever had!!! It's topped with their house cheese sauce (which is so flavorful on it's own and simply yummy), drizzled with ranch, sprinkled with blue cheese crumbles and chopped pickles. I chose tater tots as my "fries" and they were cooked to perfection! It was bursting with flavor and just a little heat! My husband said, " it's so good, it's criminal! This should be illegal!" He himself had a tenderloin horseshoe which was also excellent, but we both picked the buffalo chicken for the winner. My daughter and youngest son chose the cheese toasties with tots, and not a single bite was left! That NEVER happens! My oldest son had a burger with tots, it was very good and very little was left! The service was great and the food was fantastic! My husband declared that it will now be our monthly lunch spot! Go try The Salty Farmer,...

I brought my mom here at 8:15pm on a Thursday because we had heard wonderful things about the food. We looked up the menu ahead of time and picked what we wanted including appetizers - we were so excited!

Unfortunately after the 30 minute drive we were handed a “late night menu” that was only appetizers and pizzas. NOTHING we had planned to order was available and there was no info online about limited menu after a certain time.

We had the mac n cheese bites and despite four employees at the bartop, we received room-temp food and cheese dip that had developed a film from sitting in the window.

We had to wait an additional ~10 minutes to receive our ticket to pay even though the present staff outnumbered the paying customers.

We were super bummed but ended up at Crawford’s down the road and had AMAZING burgers.

All that to say, call ahead of time to ensure the kitchen is serving their full menu before you...

We stopped at The Salty Farmer after a quick Labor Day trip to Shelbyville. I relied on the reviews and oh boy were they dead on!!! I had the pulled pork shoe and split it with my daughter. Their homemade cheese sauce and awesome. My husband had the tenderloin shoe and also thought his meal was fantastic. Again… the cheese sauce is homemade and you can tell. My son had the BLT and you can’t really mess up bacon so he was happy. The fried mushrooms are sliced thin and the breading on them was good. The server was friendly and our drinks were never empty. He was honest about our questions (what is the best thing you serve here?). Our table felt that the shoes were better than D’arcy’s Pint in Springfield if you are familiar with that restaurant. This place is well worth a few miles out of your way! It did...

If you find yourself in Moweaqua, you absolutely must make a pit stop at the Salty Farmer. Whether you're in town for a specific reason or just passing through on a road trip, it's worth taking a detour to dine here. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted promptly. Our server was quick to take our drink and appetizer order, and let me tell you - the portions are massive! We tried the fried mushrooms and fried pickles and couldn't even finish them. Moving on to our entrees, the portions were just as generous and everything was incredibly tasty. We'll definitely be coming back for more. After our meal, we wandered around the charming shops in downtown Moweaqua. Checking the Salty Farmer off my bucket list was the cherry on top of a great dining experience! #bucketlist

Little gem of a place tucked away in a small town and hidden behind a nondescript facade. We drove an hour to be here since word of mouth was so positive. We were not disappointed. The ABS burger is an inspired combination of peanut butter, bacon and blackberry sauce. PRO TIP: Hold the cheese. American cheese clashes a bit with the wonderful flavors of this burger. I think that a Muenster would go better. I had the special which was a Hawaiian Chicken sandwich. It was really good and the sweet and sour sauce was remarkable. Go for the tots over the fries. Service is very friendly and attentive. For the price we paid, we felt like we got a good deal, as the portion sizes are pretty big.

Another pleasant surprise in Moweaqua. Kind of looks like a dive bar from the outside but nice, casual place inside. Friendly staff and atmosphere. Didn't know what a "shoe" was but waitress recommended it and it didn't disappoint. Huge plate of tasty food that she said would make you make you happy, full and a little sleepy-she was right. Very nice patio area, just too windy and dusty from the combining that day. The appetizer of fried chicken livers was enough for a meal. My friend had the Frisco burger and it looked delicious also. I wish I had a local place like this around me. THANK YOU for a wonderful time.
