Please take the five minute drive off of I-35 to go experience the best barbecue in Kansas, maybe the BEST in the central states! This little dive is open Thursdays and Saturdays. The owner has done a great job decorating inside this restaurant that's quaint, welcoming, and extremely clean. He does it all! The brisket is the best I've ever eaten. I've been to many places in Austin, all over Texas and Oklahoma, and many Kansas City joints. Eric knows what's he's doing. The macaroni and cheese is craveable. The coleslaw is perfectly balanced with red and green cabbage with not too much sauce. Let me mention his four sauces: Texas-style, espresso, cherry cola, and a spicy vinegar sauce. All the sauces are spot-on. My favorite? The espresso! While the meats need no sauce (kudos to the pit master), the espresso is a perfect blend of flavor. 2nd place goes to the spicy vinegar...a lighter, thin sauce. 3rd place is, surprisingly, the cherry cola; a mild, not-too-sweet decadent delight! Lastly, the Texas style. No fault to last place. This one is chili-powder forward and would be palatable for most bbq connoisseurs. Thank you, Eric, for your hospitality and amazing lunch! We will be back!

Had the brisket, beans, and the espresso BBQ sauce; great combo. (Sorry, no pics, I always forget and eat it first!) The owner is super nice, great service, clean, reasonably priced. It's a nice area across from Cobb Park, good area for a stroll after eating great BBQ!

I got this for my wife because she LOVES brisket & loves my cooking/seasoning, but I was headed to March Madness to leave her all day, so I HAD to surprise her with something EXTRA special! Eric did NOT disappoint! His attentiveness to the customer and their needs, is UNSURPASSED! EASILY the NICEST family you'll meet, & one of the few remaining businesses that STILL care about customer service!

Now, to the food! Who asks if you prefer a more tender cut versus a leaner but meatier part? THIS GUY! Go to HW & you'll get what they give! It's a shot in the dark with these franchise companies that just serve you what they have (or got left), only to find out most of it isn't fresh, but pre-made or processed mess, some frozen & shipped. Eric ACTUALLY takes pride in his work/craft! They explained all the sauces, then I mentioned I'm the chef of the family and a carnivore, so my wife prefers the taste with seasoning only, where he then replied, "That's actually what I consider my best accomplishment"! Well sir, you DID NOT lie! I came back this last week for the whole family to see if everybody was pulling my leg, nope, Iron Jacket is THE BEST! BAR NONE! I feel obligated to treat him now too what everybody says is the best steak in KS (mine) & some of the best baked goods (my wife's - lil' 4 foot nothing baker who has a trophy of her own lol), to repay the favor! Normally, they'll turn the tablet around to tip, but no, Eric didn't even give me the opportunity to tip big, he just cared about giving it HIS ALL, while even walking me out a piece to snack on. Which made me think, "Oh no, I'm gonna be here a while with a packed room". NO AGAIN, I had my food seconds later, he just wanted to give me a sample of how great the rest of night was going to be! I didn't feel too bad not tipping on my card though, since customers were walking back to him handing him cash tips ALREADY! IF YOU READ THIS LONG, then just know, I CAN'T MAKE THIS UP! He has been blessed with the gift of BBQ! AWARD WINNING! I'll leave it at this, we're going to get another craving, and by golly, we'll pawn something to eat @ Iron Jacket! The only sad thing, they're not open 7 days a week! Good thing for the business across the street & beside him (not fans), as he'd put them & the other surrounding shops out...

Food Review by Cindy La Rue Iron Jacket BBQ, Mulvane, Kansas a resident If you’re on the hunt for the ultimate barbecue experience, look no further than Iron Jacket BBQ in Mulvane, Kansas. My visit was an absolute revelation, and every bite felt like a celebration of flavor! Let’s start with the sides—oh, the sides! The Creole potato salad was a standout, bursting with flavor and a creamy smoothness that made it incredibly moreish. The traditional potato salad was equally delightful, with a chunky texture that offered a satisfying contrast. Both were the perfect companions to the BBQ. Now, let’s talk about the star of the show: the burnt ends. They were out of this world, each piece was savory, tender, and packed with flavor that left me wanting more. The stew was another highlight, refreshing and hearty, with incredible depth of flavor that made it hard to resist finishing the bowl. Which I did!!! The variety of meats I sampled was like a party in my mouth! Each bite showcased the skill and passion that goes into this barbecue. From the smokiness to the perfectly cooked textures, every dish was a testament to the artistry of the chef Eric! Equally impressive was the service. Eric, his beautiful wife and two boys, were attentive, friendly, and genuinely cared about providing an exceptional dining experience—their enthusiasm for the food shines through! The restaurant itself was immaculate, with thoughtful touches that made the ambiance welcoming. And don’t even get me started on their barbecue sauces! A mind-blowing collection that’s unlike anything I’ve tasted before—each sauce was a burst of flavor that enhanced every bite. i simply cannot wait to return and dive into more of the extensive menu. If you’re looking for the best barbecue experience of your life, Iron Jacket BBQ is the place to be. Hats off to Eric for creating such a remarkable dining experience!...

Saw this on an internet search and thought that my wife and I would try it out. Located in a somewhat low traffic area with a small front. We walked in and were expecting a fairly large seating area but we shocked to see just a few tables and only a few customers. We were expecting a full menu of meats but only had bbq chicken which was good. I ordered the chicken, beans and potato salad and my wife only ordered then beans and Coleslaw. We sat down and in a few minutes our order came less my potato salad. As I stated earlier the chicken was good as well as the beans and coleslaw. I waited a few minutes the asked the owner what my order was. He went over everything and discovered that he had not given me the potato salad which he got from the kitchen and profusely apologized. Again the food was good but the service and organization of the business is lacking. At 12 noon to 1pm all of your food should be prepared and ready to serve - one side was still being prepared and I overheard the owner tell the customer that it would be 30 minutes. If this restaurant is going to grow and survive then work on the delivery of your food, service and a larger site to accommodate growth. Might also be best to concentrate on Saturday with a full menu of meats and sides. Get things down on your Saturdays then expand to Thursday with...
