Just had one of the worst dining experiences in a long time. We’ve been excited to try Tijuana Flats on Veterans Blvd since its recent opening, but we won’t be back for multiple reasons. On Thursdays, they have a $7.99 deal for any burrito or bowl combo. My boyfriend ordered the steak bowl with an Agua Frescas Watermelon drink. We were not informed that the steak was $1.60 extra or that the drink was .40 extra. I ordered two tacos with a side of salsa and the same watermelon drink. My tiny side of salsa was an extra $4.59! We also got chips and queso. Overall, the food was super disappointing, bland, and overpriced. My boyfriend could barely find any steak in his bowl and for a man who always finishes his plate to leave 75%, you know it had to be unappetizing. My blackened chicken was dry and flavorless. Most of the taco was lettuce, tomato, and cheese. The agua frescas were simply lemonade, soda water, and watermelon syrup. Side note: If you want a good watermelon juice go to El Cubilete on Thompson Ln. Now, to top off the disappointing food and prices, their employees sealed the deal for me to never return. Their manager, who did not introduce herself by name, gave us the biggest attitude and dirty looks when we explained our confusion with the bill. We stated that none of the upcharges were explained by the cashier and that the price seemed really high for what we got, especially since we ordered the Thursday bowl combo special. She just stood there with a smirk and didn’t offer anything to improve our experience or show any concern at all. Save the trip and go to any of the other restaurants in town that actually provide unlimited free salsa, more flavorful food with better quality ingredients, friendlier staff and management, and menu...
Read moreI don't recommend this place, but I'm also confused. They have a salsa bar and a drink bar, but the food is on par with Taco Bell. Guacamole reminded me of the premade guac you get in Kroger. My wife liked the cheese dip. It reminded me of ballpark cheese and chips. I wouldn't say the cheese dip is bad, It's just not what I expect when ordering queso in a restaurant. The quesadilla was the best food item we tried. I wouldn't go back for the quesadilla, but if you go... this is what you get. The shrimp street tacos were the worst street tacos I've ever had. The shrimp were seasoned well, but everything else was lacking.
Our guacamole came out in less than five minutes. Our main food was at our table in 10 minutes. Our drinks took over 20 minutes. Even my wife started eating before they came. We ordered the jalapeño margaritas at the same time we ordered our food. The drinks were so salty we couldn't drink them. I added a pic of what I left. I gave the food 2 stars because the quesadillas were okay, and the cheese dip reminded me of my childhood, but not in a great way. The service was the second worst I've experienced in Murfreesboro since I moved here. I don't think the atmosphere is horrible for fast food, but I expect more when they have a full bar.
This place is okay if you have kids or want a decent lunch place. Just order a quesadilla combo and forget...
Read moreDon’t miss this spot! The food is good, plentiful, and fresh. I’ll be coming here after kayaking this year. I’ve been dying for a good burrito spot that hits the sweet spot. I can pay $14 for a burrito and chips that is enough for two dainty eaters or enough for me to do an accidental OMAD diet.
I’ve only had the shrimp but the chicken looked good, too. They have stuff for people trying to watch their figure, you can pretty much customize it how you want and the ingredients taste fresh.
The cookie dough flautas are deadly. Make sure you share that one, but you won’t want to. Don’t skip a side of queso it not only looks delicious - it is.
They have beer, Mexican sodas, and fountain drinks.
Hope to be back soon and give their tacos a try.
PS: They have Barqs Root Beer, the best mass produced root beer. Good ice chunk-size, too.
