After discover this pizza shop from their pineapple pizza viral video I decided we would give it a shot. For starters, the location is possibly one of the worst locations for a pizza shop Iāve ever seen in my life. Itās on the one way side of a highway. It took literally an extra 8 minutes of drive time between all of the uturns necessary to get the food and get back on the highway. This location is definitely going to hurt them. The inside actually has a really cute dining room that you would never guess was there. We were just passing through on our way to a festival so we just ordered some garlic knots to give the place a shot. The garlic knots are average to small sized (about 2 bites each) and you are only getting 5 in an order which costs $5. Also included was a very very small container of sauce (probably 2 oz) thatās was only half full. Probably about enough sauce for maybe 2 of the knots. So from a value standpoint things are pretty rough on the garlic knots, I think making it an even 6 knots and actually providing somewhere close to enough sauce would be a good start for this business. As for the actual knots themselves, they were incredibly dense (likely from unproofed dough) and very hard to eat. They definitely arenāt proofing the knots for long enough before cooking them. The flavor of the knots was relatively bland, despite them swimming oil. The oil just didnāt get properly infused with any of the garlic so it just tastes oily. The parm cheese was the only saving grace, you basically had to take the knots and dunk them In the oil parm mix at the bottom of the container to get any actual flavorful bites. As for the sauce, they just give you cold pizza sauce and it tasted like it was about 40% water. There was some basil and garlic to be detected in the sauce but since they donāt cook the sauce and they give it to you cold most of the flavors never got properly released from the ingredients leaving a very bland and watery sauce. I imagine the sauce tastes much better once itās cooked on the pies but itās a very lackluster sauce to serve cold as a side. In general the knots were a pretty big disappointment and knots are a pretty basic item to make. It gives me very little faith in what their pizza is going to be like if they canāt even get garlic knots dialed in. I am still going to try to pizza and I will adjust my review to reflect the pizza quality once that happens but as of not Iām chalking this up as another disappointment from the western Pa...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe first time I tried to order, there were no pizzas available for that evening. I was frustrated because I was hungry and I heard about this place on Facebook and really wanted it! We are so used to getting what we want when we want it. However, I took a step back and thought about it differently.. if I want a Honda civic I can go to any dealer in the area and pick up one today. Will it be okay? Sure, but it's nothing special. If I wanted to get a new Porsche 911 gt3 I'd need to order that and perhaps wait a while to get it, I won't be able to drive off with one today. Now that's something worth waiting for. That's a car unlike many others. A Slice of New York pizza is the Porsche of pizzas, in my humble opinion. You may have to wait for it but rest assured the wait will be worth it and it won't be a dime a dozen, run of the mill pizza that you can get anywhere in the area.
Long story short, the owner was extremely understanding and helpful. He gave me a few different options as to what was available for that evening and while I didn't get exactly what I wanted, I found something else that my wife and I could get and it turned out incredible! I've ordered many times since knowing that I may have to order a day or two in advance but it is well worth the extra planning.
Be patient. Find a way to get this pie in your mouth. You will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI stopped into A Slice of New York Pizza and was greeted by friendly staff and the awesome owner Sean. I ordered a Margherita pizza, a Sicilian Pepperoni and a Hot Sausage "Sandy Wandy" sandwich. All were to die for. I must admit, I traveled from Boston to visit my brother, grab this pizza from this spot, and to attend the much anticipated dough making class taught by Sean and his colleague Steve. We learned the art and science of a finely fermented dough, the importance of quality ingredients, and the importance of a passion to put out the best product around. I learned so much in this 3 hour course about how to put together some of the best tasting pizza I've have ever eaten. The great thing is that I made it at home. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to take their home pizza game to a whole new level. I have followed Sean on social media for a while now, and I was so happy to finally meet him in person, where he taught me so much about pizza. Thank you Sean and Steve for a great afternoon. I am really looking forward to any other classes you may offer...
