I don't know how this place flew under my radar for years. I've passed the cute farm house hundreds of times, but never stopped for lunch or at their bakery. What a mistake that was. I cannot believe what a find this adorable place is. This is the type of place Wauwatosa has in spades, but we seem to be missing, to some degree, further out in suburbia. This place gets everything right. At the point, when a live chicken came up to our covered front porch table to say "hi", I blurted out to my dining mates that I wanted to live here! Food excellent! Prices - reasonable for what is offered Service- pleasant and attentive Atmosphere- off the charts adorable! Baked good - they deserve a review of their own... Having lived and travelled what seems like everywhere, I believe this small place has the most beautiful display of baked goods I have ever seen. Famous chef's would be put to shame by this unabashed display of baking prowess. This chef is clearly an artist, most obviously demonstrated by stunning mirror glazed cakes. Everything is so beautifully and professionally executed and, of course, enormous- as is currently on trend. If you're lucky enough to live in this area, or are traveling through, you do not want to miss an opportunity to stop in here. You will not be disappointed!

We were headed to Costco for our m9nthoy supply run and decided we better eat first; otherwise,, we might load off on some strange bulk items we will never use, so since we heard good things about the gingerbread house and it was close to Costco it was an easy choice, I order the fish fry since lately I’ve been a Friday fish fry junky and I would have to say it’s was a great place to start for my drink I ordered the hot chai tea latte which I think I’m now addicted to it was so good, we sat on the porch out front and watched the birds as they flew in and out of a bird house close by, they were very entertaining, our server was welcoming and helpful with all our questions, if you get Jessy as your server then you will be taken care off, the porch atmosphere was just fun and relaxing, for me the true gift of a place is the staff and if the food is awesome but the staff is not up to speed the experience just falls apart, the staff here truly made the place shine they all seemed happy to be here, after we ate we checked out the bakery counter and the choices were complex and interesting, the bakers here are truly artist, then we walked the grounds before we headed out for Costco and explored the property if you have kids check out the chicken coops, so yes we will go back

We've been picking up coffee and desserts from here over the last few years and my son and I have loved it. A few months ago we tried the tres leches cake, a slice from the counter was the best cake I'd ever had. I told my husband immediately I want this for my birthday. So I ordered a 6" tres leches cake. It was exactly what I had ordered on the outside, absolutely beautiful! But the cake itself was dry. It's more like a slightly over cooked white cake, it wasn't anything like the cake slice from IN the case. I did call to let them know and see if maybe there was a mix up. After checking into it and a talk with the master baker the manager explained their tres leches is not a wet cake. Personally, based on what has been severed to us several times from IN the case by single slice vs the $55 cake we bought, something went wrong. They were not close to being the same. She said if you want to order a wet cake you can request extra drizzle at no charge, I highly recommend that if you're interested in ordering from them.. based on what we got, it needs it! I'll probably go back for coffee and desserts in the case at some point. It's to cramped for us to sit down to eat so the 3 stars are strictly for coffee and desserts in the case as we've never felt comfortable to sit for a meal. For the price, the cake itself and being told there's no way there was possibly a mistake, I'm super disappointed and won't order full cakes here again. (I've been told El Ray makes a great tres leches, so I'll be checking them out next time) (Over a year ago) We recently tried out the bakery here. My favorite item was the cream puff, it was pretty spot on to me to the Wi State Fair cream puff. My son loved the chocolate ganache brownie. We tried a bunch of other items (it was kinda a bad idea to all go in hungry!) My favorite item though was the iced caramel macchiato! I'm totally addicted now! The staff are super friendly and helpful, and the drive thru is great! Stay and watch the chickens, just don't feed them!

We’ve been to the Gingerbread House several times. Unfortunately, this last time, the coffee and bakery were delicious as usual but 2 of our 3 entrees were not well prepared. We arrived at 10:40am on a Friday and were told they were between breakfast and lunch service and there would be a wait for our food. No problem. They stated they would take our order but it wouldn’t be started until 11:00. This was because we wanted lunch. We ordered drinks, a soup and three entrees. Our coffee’s came out after a short wait. It took until almost until 11:35 to receive our entrees. A bit longer than you would expect. 2 burgers and a Caprese melt. We ordered our burgers medium rare. My wife’s was well done mine was incinerated. It didn’t even really taste like a hamburger anymore. Beyond dry. To be honest, I’d rather have it still mooing than over cooked, but this was far beyond over cooked. Why do you even take a temperature if it’s going to be that far off? From my pic you can’t tell because the burgers were presented nicely. Also, ordered a “Bacon” cheeseburger and got one half strip of bacon. Told a lady who checked on our table right after the food arrived, and she said she would take care of it. Which she did with a very large side of bacon to make up for the mistake. Sadly, the bacon they gave me was room temperature at best. Basically coId. I did appreciate the effort, but hot bacon tastes so much better. Service was good. The clam chowder was also good. We will still go back, but hopefully they get their groove back in the kitchen. Also love the livestock roaming the grounds.

The Ginger Bread House: I tend to strictly adhere to my diet, but I do feast on my birthday, weekly cheat day, and major celebrations (such as a holiday or wedding). On 9/12 I attended the wedding of my youngest brother and it certainly qualified as an occasion to let loose. The cake was constructed by The Ginger Bread House. Appearance wise the cake looked beautiful, which in my opinion is the primary purpose of the cake (decoration) as well as the traditional cake cutting ceremony. Their cake had a couple different flavors embedded throughout it. The first piece I tried was a yellow cake with vanilla caramel/Dulce de leche frostings and the second piece was a chocolate cake with strawberry and vanilla frostings. Both the chocolate and yellow cake was soft and moist, which was a welcome surprise as I’ve had far too many dry wedding cakes. The frosting on the inside of the slices was creamier and lighter than the frosting on the outside/periphery. Unfortunately the caramel flavor was not very strong and almost undetectable, which was disappointing. Sadly the exterior frosting kind of ruined it as I found it to be “taffy” like, tough, and not all that flavorful. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever tasted a really good wedding cake (and I'm a huge cake fan, it's just wedding cakes seem to look pretty, but taste blah). This one wasn’t bad; it just wasn’t exactly good either. It served its purpose though by looking nice and being there to be cut by my bro and sister-in-law. Doughboy_Food_Reviews

For years I have driven by this charming restaurant vowing to try it. Concerned that the decor may surpass the service and the food I delayed doing do. Boy was I wrong. My wife and I finally did go and have breakfast and left amazed. I rarely say that about a restaurant. We will be going back soon. The decor is exquisite. You can sit outside on the porch on a warm summer's day and enjoy a leisurely breakfast with a fresh glass of cool orange juice. If you do, do not be surprised if you see one of their chickens from their chicken coop stroll by. You can choose to sit inside and enjoy a hot cup of coffee and enjoy their delicious food and wonder at the amazing decor. I had the traditional Eggs Benedict and my wife the Farmer's Omlette. The eggs benedict had delicious ham and the hollandaise sauce had something in it I can't identify, but I now crave. My wife's omlette had three eggs, bacon, ham, tomato, onion, mushroom, green pepper and cheddar cheese. Both dishes were served with crispy seasoned wedge fries that were amazingly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Everything was simply outstanding! A strong recommend for those with the time to enjoy a leisurely breakfast. You will leave not just full, but inspired.
