Planned a wedding reception here, but it didn't happen! What this place did to my son and his fiance was unconscionable and unprofessional! They had planned to have their wedding reception at Muskegon Country Club (MCC) for August 2020, however, it had to be cancelled due to Covid. So they rescheduled a date to have their reception at MCC in 2021 right away to ensure they could be accommodated for the following year. Once a new date was set with MCC the dates for everything else had to be changed to coincide with the new reception date. You can imagine what a headache that was! In late December 2020, my son received a call from the Country Club cancelling AGAIN, not due to Covid, but simply because they are shutting down to renovate. The board decided not to honor the contract they had with them. (Of course, the contract had specific consequences if the wedding couple cancels, but nothing in there about the venue cancelling.) The deposit that the Country Club held for two years was returned to them. (Gee, thanks!) My son and his fiance were left again with no reception and had to scramble to find a venue, which was not an easy task as a lot of couples were in the same predicament due to Covid and had had to reschedule. And, if they could not find a venue for the same date, they would pretty much be replanning their wedding for the third time! There is NO good reason why contracts could not be honored for 2021 and the renovation wait until after these events. I cannot understand how the members of the board could justify cancelling on people again, knowing the hardship it would cause them. It was bad enough that Covid ruined their initial plans, but to "pull the rug" out from under them again and then think that simply giving back the deposit that MCC held for two years relieved them of responsibility is appalling and shows what kind of people are running this establishment. For those of you who are planning a wedding at MCC, please BEWARE. Unless you ensure that the contract also spells out consequences for MCC if they chose to cancel, I would not trust that your event is safe from cancellation just because you...
Read moreWe were celebrating my Dad's 90th birthday party at the Lake Bluff Grille where my brother is the Executive Chef. The food was amazing, our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive and the Grille's Pastry Chef made my Dad a beautiful birthday cake with the most delicious frosting, it was like heaven on birthday cake. The atmosphere of Lake Bluff Grille can lean all the way from really casual, getting off the golf course casual to dressed for dinner before a show, so suits and ties and dresses. I don't think it's suited for formal wear, although prom dates wouldn't be made to feel uncomfortable if they came there before prom for dinner. I got the perch dinner and everything was cooked to perfection, but there was a lot of food, so most of us took home Togo boxes. Prices are high but like I said, quantity and quality are outstanding. Since both public and golfers coming off the course are welcome into this restaurant, I'm assuming during golf season, reservations, especially for big parties, are recommended. Otherwise, I have only been there once on a Thursday evening in November and there seemed to be plenty of seating so I think walk-ins are more than welcome. It was an enjoyable evening and I think you would enjoy yourself there, too. It's extremely laid-back, a comfortable atmosphere, outstanding wait staff and food and everyone enjoyed the bar drinks, too. It's the first time I ever lived in a city where the Country Club shared it's restaurant with the public and that may change, so I would take advantage of this situation as...
Read moreNot my best experience compared to last time. The remodel looks nice. The view from the outdoor deck is amazing... A great view of our waters. And plenty of outdoor seating. Ist -service. Waitress was slow coming back to the table for our 2 guests that were ten minutes late. I asked for an ice water with lemon. I got an empty glass to fill myself from the caraf that was on the table (not ice water in there.) I asked for a glass of ice. She waited on 2 other tables, so I asked again. I still waited another 5 minutes for it. But I got it! 2nd - food Two of the group ordered the perch sandwich. It was hard to find the perch. They were very thin, heavily battered, seriously overcooked, and dried out. Maybe they were fish jerky? I took an upcharge to get onion rings and they were yummy. It came with dill pickle coleslaw - tasted good. Best meal in the group was a hamburger with 2 thin patties called a smash burger. The menu said they were each 4 oz. The choice of cheeses was a great idea and she said the special sauce was good. Another friend had the apple & walnut salad. Looked great.. granny smith apples, walnuts, feta cheese, tomatoes and hearts of palm. Don't know what that is? Last one - 1/2 wedge salad (still huge) and a cup of soup. It was a pick two special for$14. So, location was great. Setting was great. But even with those two, the food and service made it "not worth a return visit." But I believe in second chances so probably...
