today we came to dinner at the Hoshi Sushi restaurant. the restaurant was hot and the air conditioner was not working well. we were with a small child there and expected to get a quick and quality dinner. instead, we waited for our rolls for about 40 minutes or more. I don't know the exact time, but it was a very long time. the waiter was not overly attentive to us. She came to our table only once when she brought us snacks. and never even came to pick up empty plates. When we finally got our rolls, our child was running out of patience and we had to eat food in 5 seconds so that he would not start crying and we would not ruin the evening for other visitors. I noticed that the rolls looked very average. the presentation was ugly, the rolls were cut crookedly and thrown on a plate. the food looked like it was in a cheap buffet. although prices are above average there. the rolls tasted very average too. the miso soup had only two small pieces of tofu and one or two pieces of seaweed. this is weird. I love miso soup, but this soup was as weird as possible. are they really trying to save on cheap products like tofu? while we were waiting, my husband several times wanted to get up and leave and not wait any further for the order. but, I persuaded him to stay, since we had already waited a long time and had to eat at least something. I honestly don't understand where so many good reviews about the restaurant come from. after reading the reviews, we had high expectations, but in fact our ...
Read more1-23-23 Going in I didn't want to have any expectations especially after reading the reviews. With a level mind I went. I ordered the Gyoza and Seared Tuna as the starters. Then the Tequila roll, the Super Crunch, Spicy Tuna, and Hamachi Nigiri. Gyoza was fully fried all around. I like my Gyoza to be crispy on the bottom and soft on top. it was still good, just not as good as it should be. Seared tuna was fantastic with great umami and a nice spicy chili note. The combination of the seasoned oil and tender thin slices of tuna really was a pleasure. My family loved the Super Crunch and it was our most favorite. The Tequila roll was also really good. The Spicy Tuna was okay. I liked that the spicy mayo sauce for it was really not mayo but their own take vs the heavy mayo sauces usually used in this roll. We ended with the Hamachi Nigiri and it was great. Very fresh and tender that is very satisfying. Their sushi rice complimented all of the rolls and Nigiri. Overall this place will be on my short list of go-to Sushi spots in the Naperville area. Number one being Momoya and this a close second. It's on the pricey side but good sushi will always be, plus in this economy, it was fair. (Didn't get a pic of the seared tuna, family tore into it before I could! Also our bill was $120 with gratuity for 2 adults, 1 teen, and 1 toddler. Just enough not...
Read moreI have my go-to spots but I also like to try places I’ve never been before. This is one of these experiences.
A family member thought to try this place out, I said fine why not. To make this long story short…
-family member said worker was rude when asked for help
-food is over priced and not good
-ordered chicken teriyaki; sauce is literally soup liquid, and they wrapped it in aluminum with hardly any veggies (1 broccoli, 2 zucchini, some onion and carrot slices), FLAVORLESS. Chicken was overcooked and is in slices, not like a hibachi style chicken teriyaki. (Sarku Japan at Yorktown mall serves the best chicken teriyaki hands down)
-Spring rolls says (6); it’s not, it’s 3 pieces cut in half, also had a funky taste I don’t usually taste in spring rolls
-sushi wasn’t terrible but sushi rice was too sweet and they are tiny pieces; overpriced for what you get. I can name 3 better places that are cheaper, bigger, and better quality in the area
Overall, never again coming here. $54ish for mediocre food.
GO TO ZUKA’S, don’t go here!! I promise you, you can spend $45 there and serves 2 people and most of the time you can eat twice from the amount of food...
