Let me tell you about my new favorite thing - Pan Asia Restaurant! I kept seeing this place on the way to and from work and kept telling myself, "I need to drop in there". I did, and boy am I glad I did!
When I walked in the door, I was immediately greeted by two smiling faces and several square feet of a very comprehensive menu. I was in shock that this place that seemed to be a little hole in the wall had such varied offerings. The fare consisted mostly of your typical American Chinese food but there are other delights on the menu as well.
After some deliberation I ordered two egg rolls, a small pork fried rice, and the Chicken Chunks in Spicy Satay sauce. As my order was being made I was pleased that Pan Asia not only has an open kitchen, but both the front of the house and the kitchen were clean and well kept. Cleanliness is often overlooked in restaurants, but it is an important factor to me.
In what was literally a handful of minutes, my order was ready! Experience has taught me that this could be either a good or bad thing. I grabbed my order, thanked the gentlemen, and went on my way. On the way home my car was filling with the delightful smells coming from the bag.
I had wondered how hot the food was going to be, but my curiosity was satiated when I pulled the food out of the bag. It was properly hot, like, atomic hot. You know, like someone had just pulled the stuff out of a wok (as it should be).
The egg rolls were fried to perfect and nice and crispy without being greasy. The stuffing actually had a flavor other than blanched cabbage, which is what most "fast food" Asian restaurants offer. What was interesting is that there was a little ramekin of duck sauce included, but this wasn't like your typical duck sauce. It was thin in consistency and had a smell indicating it was strongly vinegared... but it was SO much better than that crappy sauce you usually get from places that is just made of high-fructose corn syrup and little else. On the egg rolls, it really accentuated the flavor. The inclusion of house made duck sauce is a little touch that I appreciate.
The pork fried rice was perfect. It was good and sticky, without being overcooked or with too much of the starch clinging to the outside of the rice. Also, it actually had bits of pork that had a flavor to them, not like other places where you get tiny little chunks of tasteless leather. It was well seasoned and not overly salty and would easily stand by itself.
I wasn't sure what to expect with chicken chunks in spicy satay sauce, but I was pleasantly surprised. Tons of chicken, green peppers, and onions in a fantastic brown sauce that was spicy but not so hot that it cloys the palette. I love spicy food, but so many places either give you something that is mediocre at best, or so hot that you don't actually taste the components of the food. The seasoning on this was spot on, with a bit of a fire at the back of the throat while letting the flavors of the food shine through. Hints of curry and mustard peeked through the layers of flavor as they should do - those are strong flavors and can quickly be overwhelming in a dish. But, the expert chefs at Pan Asia know what they're doing. Give it a try - I am sure I will be ordering it again.
In all, I strongly recommend giving Pan Asia a try. I guarantee they have something there that you will like. I have a big appetite for Asian food and they have a big menu... so it seems like a perfect match! Prices might be a buck or so higher than you would expect to pay, but there is a saying - 'you get what you pay for', and you do at Pan Asia. Also, the sauce for the chicken dish was a little bit thinner than you might be familiar with, but that just means they didn't load it down with corn starch to thicken it up. That's not a negative in my book as corn starch seems to steal some of the...
Read moreI've ordered many meals from here in the past 4 years and I'll miss their excellent food because of their nasty and vicious manager!2 months ago I ordered a delivered meal,as I've done on as almost a consistent weekly basis and never had a problem with receiving it hot, even when they say it would take an hour as and a half!My last meal they said about an hour and a half and it got here in one hour and it was nearly ice cold! Also, when I opened the 2 liter bottle of Sprite it exploded all over me and my I knew, when the delivery driver came(who has delivered here many times)something was strange because he wouldn't look at me. I called Pan Asia to inform them of my displeasure and the man,who said he was the manager, said I should have known not to expect my food to be hot because he told me it would be an hour and a half to get my order! Then he blamed the driver, which has nothing to do with me,the customer! The manager was very nasty to me and said he would NEVER, and I used caps on never because he said it so loud, deliver another order to me! That is no way to treat a regular customer of nearly 4 years that orders nearly every week and even order two or three meals at one time to treat some friends and neighbors!I told him he was going to lose the large amount of business I've given them over the years...he said "GOOD "DONT EVER ORDER HERE AGAIN!!And hung up on me!! Although their food is always awesome but they have NO people skills and are very rude and antagonistic if you voice a complaint!! Remember, if you order delivery and they tell you an hour or more DO NOT CALL THEM AND COMPLAIN if your order arrives COLD!! In nearly 4 years I have spent nearly $1000 on deliveries from them, and sometimes, when they were busy,it did take an hour and a half for the food to arrive but it was always hot and a 2 litre bottle of soda never exploded on me!! PS A couple of New Years Eve ago I ordered a large order that took a few hours to get and it was HOT!! If anyone that reads my post think that it is appropriate that I was told that I should not have expected a hot meal because they told me it would take an hour and a half then please reply to my post! And to Pan Asia...shame on you for the way you treated a great customer and shame on you for not accepting responsibility and instead blaming it all on your delivery driver who has delivered for you for at least 3 years now!! And the biggest shame is I only live approximately 1 mile from you !! In 4 years I've never had an issue with Mint Cafe,Golden Dragon and in the past year no issues with Chen Yeng Li,ONLY...
Read moreFrequent customer but the business just doesn't care. Last 2 times I ordered I did not receive the items I paid for. These were "add ons" to the combos and paid substitutions so I assume it was because of the inexperience of the cashier (who seemed clueless and no longer works there). Bottom line, I did not get the additional food I paid for nor the substitution I paid for even though I have the receipts to prove it.
So I went to the biz and patiently waited for 15 min until the Mgr wasn't busy to let him know that I missed significant food on my last 2 orders. Didn't ask him for anything free or anything like that.
I got immediately attacked.
He started YELLING at me saying, "what kind of scam are you trying to pull?" I told him I'm a frequent customer and wanted him to know I've been paying for items I'm not getting and he just yelled at me saying, "what are you trying to pull?" I told him I'm enough of a frequent customer that they know my name when I call and he said "your phone number means nothing." I don't believe in having a screaming contest with people in a busy business so I just left.
All I can assume is that the management doesn't care about the customer experience. They can't keep cashiers because I've never seen the same cashier there twice and I used to eat there about once a week. So maybe they are hard on the employees. I don't know.
All I can ask you is why would you support a business that calls a long time and frequent customer a liar and scammer instantly without even listening to him. I came in with the intent of just informing them and ordering dinner, but once I got LITERALLY yelled at for "trying to pull something," it clearly shows you that ONLY GREED motivates this place.
There is an equally good place right down the street around the corner. Use Google Maps and support a place that values their customers and employees. I'm sad to lose this place as one of my go to places, but the only way to stop lack of customer service and appreciation from a business is to boycott it.
I wanted nothing from them but a voice and was denied...
