Of all the Hispanic restaurants that I’ve frequented, (and I DO frequent A LOT of them), I must say that this particular location has exceeded my expectations in many different ways! The food, let me start there, is non greasy (unlike most Hispanic restaurants I’ve been to) they do not cook fast and easy with no thought to the overall flavor of the dish. This place carefully considers the use of salt and seasonings. I usually need some type of sauce for my meals but NOT HERE! They cook like they are at home! The salsa itself needs no salt or pepper or sauce added. THE SALSA IS ABSOLUTELY PERFECTED HERE! The meals themselves are well thought out. The plates do not smell like they just came out of the dishwasher, the entire building itself is clean clean CLEAN! No sticky tables and sticky menus! They care and I can tell!
Now, about the drinks……. I have been to many a bar in my lifetime so far. I have never had someone so carefully craft a drink for me in my life! I ordered; in this order, a Mexicalita Jamaica, a martini espresso (with Cantera Negra Tequila), and a Long Island Team from their drink menu. Every single one was worth the price. Delicious AND they didn’t add too much sweet and sour to the Long Island unlike most bars do! This entire place is clean! The food is clean, the drinks are well crafted and absolutely delicious with clean glasses! The waiters are kind and thoughtful of their patrons! This is the type of place that you take a special someone and you have a great night afterwards. I would recommend this particular restaurant to ANYONE in the Nashville area who is looking for a “Mexican Restaurant” because I PROMISE YOU, you will fall in love! The atmosphere is well thought out also. Lots of nice decor and very good authentic music. Check the menu for your usuals and trust me, they will make it better than what you are used to. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! And do not forget to tip your servers here, if anyone deserves it, they deserve...
Read moreThis is not a bad review. Just an honest one and I truly hope it gets to the right person and I hope it helps improve your restaurant. We went and try Casa Calixto when they first opened. Pretty excited. You get bored of the same places and we like to eat out. Within 3 miles we have Tequilas, Agavero, Cancun, Mestizo and Sombrero. I was hopping for a more authentic restaurant. We saw some of the renovation progress (used to be Terra Azul) and it looks they put a lot of work and money into changing the looks of the restaurant and the atmosphere. Turned out beautiful. I only wish they put that effort and money on the menu. Sadly same concept that everyone else. Is just another OK Mexican Restaurant. Same combinations. Same old good fajitas. Same lousy tortillas wrapped in aluminum foil. One of the items I purchased was the Bandera Enchiladas. Pretty lame presentation and sauces tasted out of a can. That’s basically why we did not returned until last night.
About last night. Place was busy. Hard to park. They used to offer valet parking. Did not see it now. We were sat but didn’t feel welcomed. Maybe they were tired of the shift and the large parties they had. I ordered an appetizer and it was good. Bad part it was the main dishes came right after. So we couldn’t enjoy the appetizer otherwise the food will be cold. I ordered Steak a la Mexicana. Never in my life have seen that they use pickled jalapeños and carrots out of the can to create this dish. It only takes red tomatoes, onions and fresh jalapeños.
Prices are good. I wouldn’t mind paying more if it means we will get better food. They have Same rice. Same beans that most places. Chips are too thin and greasy. Chips salsa ok.
They do have the opportunity to be a great restaurant in Bellevue and I hope...
Read moreUpdate: I decided to go back and give it another chance. The staff was extremely apologetic for my last experience here. I was surprised they even recognized me. Overall, the food is great but the atmosphere is AMAZING. Truly, I was more upset about being turned away last time because of how beautiful it is in here. It’s definitely worth a try, even just to enjoy the scenery.
I went in and they denied me service because my ID said “not for real ID ACT PURPOSES” after I tried to order a margarita. I am 25 years old, a quick google search would have clarified and I quote, “Yes, you can purchase alcohol in Tennessee with a standard driver's license or identification that says "Not for REAL ID Act Purposes" on the front. This is because a REAL ID is only required for accessing federal facilities, not for general identification purposes like purchasing alcohol.” The management is obviously not educated in properly checking identification. Honestly was so excited to try this new place but after this, I was left feeling bitter and I don’t know if...
