A friend was so excited that this place, unknown to me, was coming to Nashville. We adventured to Nashville yesterday, and I now completely understand why.
My first impression was that the place was fun. The atmosphere passed the vibe check, if you will, being laid back and unpretentious. Lots of awesome finds all over the place (those flags hanging from the ceiling of the covered dining area are PILLOW CASES!). I am also a sucker for themed bathrooms, and of course they have a turkey and a wolf bathroom.
We arrived early and were just a few back in line. Yes, a line forms for this restaurant that actually doesn't have a dining room. There's a covered dining area, which was surrounded by clear thick plastic to protect you a bit from the weather. I'm sure they add heaters when it's cold, but it was a beautiful day. They also have outdoor seating. Simple and efficient.
We ordered way too much food for 2 people, but that's what we normally do. We like to sample a bit of everything, and take a bunch home. We got the fried bologna sandwich, the collard greens melt, the McCaviar, the stuffed crust spanikopita, sweet potato waffle fry salad, and the baba ganoush special (not on the regular menu).
Elevated stoner food, man. And I mean this is the most wonderful way. These are combinations you just don't usually see, and it's delightfully refreshing.
The fried bologna has potato chips and shredded lettuce. The bread is thick and the perfect combination of buttery, toasted, and soft. The collard greens melt maintains that delicious bite of collars greens you love whilst also giving you the comfortable hug of a grilled cheese and popping your taste buds with surprises. The stuffed crust spanikopita was perfectly flakey on the outside and filled with those rich but also bright flavors of a traditional spanikopita that feed my soul. The McCaviar was unlike anything I've ever had before. Hash browns, brioche (I believe), salmon roe, anchovies in the sauce... I'm still amazed by that little guy. Just a creation of pure imagination. I don't even like peanuts, and the sweet potato waffle fry salad was SO BALANCED that I didn't even mind them being present at all. And it's a salad just because it has some veg on top 🤣 but who doesn't love some loaded fries?!? These just happen to be loaded with curry (and this dish is nothing vegan and gluten free). The baba ganoush special was so perfect. It was babaganoush elevated with chili oil and perfectly toasted bread. Some of the best babaganoush I've had, and you know I get it anywhere that has it.
A few other points of efficiency: water cups and water are available for you to get and refill on your own, as are napkins, utensils, and condiments. Should you order a ton of food like us and need takeaway containers, they're also there for you to grab. These are efficiencies that I truly admire, especially when the place is set up like this one.
I truly loved this experience, and I hope you go find out how great it is...
Read moreI’m always up for something different and this place was just what we needed for a night out in Nashville. Walking up to the place was a trip, it’s in what used to be a pretty rough part of town. It sits on a corner lot on Meridian, it has so many different things to look at ..very different. I picked up the menu which was smaller and had a lot of choices I wasn’t familiar with but with that said I ended up with multiple items I wanted . I chose the Summer Pepperoni Sandwich, it was amazing, simple but had flavors I’ve never experienced in a sandwich. The girls had the special Chicken Cutlet Caesar and the chicken was off the hook! Now, I believe they are known for their fried bologna sandwich which is MASSIVE, I didn’t get to taste it but Evan ate every bit of it, def something I couldn’t have done! We finished up the food and had to try the ice cream sandwich…I had the Blueberry Beauregard …flavors that were amazing! I can’t wait to go there again, I’m sure it will be next week! Let me not forget the great staff they had working for them, they were fun and you can see how much they love their job! Check them out, I promise you won’t be...
Read moreI was so excited when I heard Turkey and the Wolf would be opening a Nashville location! They've been open a hot minute now but I finally made my way over to East to check them out.
Parking: street (but there's a good bit of it!)
Seating: outside, but some is inside-ish. You'll see what I mean. There's no a/c, but you'll be okay. We went when it was 90 degrees and we survived.
Food: small menu, but that's what we know and love about them. The day we came we ordered all of the specials. BBQ pork, wings, and some sort of tomato sandwich. Pork was great, wings were good, tomato sandwich was overpowered by mayo. It was HUGE though so had it not been for so much mayo definitely would have been a great value!
I love this place and what it stands for! Go support them. Good people. Great...
