I don't typically have pizza (less and less carbs nowadays). I came here with family recently though. I had a good Caesar salad and boneless buffalo chicken...err, bites, I guess. They were tasty, but not really what you come to a pizza place for.
My parents and my kids got a pizza, half sausage, half sausage, peppers and way too many olives (not Girolamo's fault...really, who orders black and green olives, Dad?).
Despite the huge amount of olives, I swiped a slice and while the toppings and sauce were good, what really floored me was the crust. It was hand-tossed, and had little crispy black bits - not improperly burnt, just a perfect high temp crust char. It was really, really tasty.
At home, my wife and I have gotten very, very good at making low and no carb pizza crusts. They're really quite good. And having this at Girolamo's, I realize that while they certainly fill the pizza "void" and are just as good as MOST pizzas, there's just nothing like a real deal crust...
Read moreWe drove one hour away to try Girolamo's because we grew up in Cahokia, IL eating at Antonio's Pizzeria, and I had heard that the owner of Girolamo's is the nephew of Antonio, so we had to make the pilgrimage. And we were certainly not disappointed! While not exactly the same as I remember at Antonio's, it was quite similar, in that the pizza crust was perfectly crispy and the pizza sauce addictively zesty. Toasted Ravioli and Garlic Knots were also great, and I was pleasantly surprised to see they had a margarita menu with very affordable prices. The place has a nice small town / hometown vibe. My only small complaint is when we asked for marinara sauce to dip the knots in, they gave us a cup of cold sauce. Dipping sauces should always be served warm, especially marinara sauce. But I would not let that one small detail deter us from visiting again. I would gladly make the 2-hour roundtrip journey again to eat at...
Read moreTraveling through to St. Louis and looked for a quick bite around 730pm decided to give Girolamo a try. Was seated right away, our server Jennifer was WONDERFUL! She was friendly, service was quick and ZERO complaints!!
We ordered apps and pizza and they arrived quick and hot!
The Garlic knots were amazing when they arrived to the table I thought there was alot of Butter but it was tasty and I would definitely order again. The Connoli was good, reminded me of pizza bites and missing the Italian flavor I'm use to. The Pizza we order..the crust was what is hard to find anywhere that I've had pizza..it was crispy and crunchy like a cracker crust, the vegetable toppings looked fresh cut except for the mushrooms, the meats were good. The sauce of the pizza may be great to some but to me lacked the homeade flavor I was looking for.
All in all good local place to get...
