Food tastes great, but that's the only redeeming quality about Coney island. It's a shame that I have to rate this just 2 stars. Currently as I am writing this review, I have been in the drive thru for 20 minutes. I have been at the menu with no cars in front of me, and the restaurant is no where near packed. I understand most of the workers are still in school and may be inexperienced, but go to any other fast food restaurant and it's no different.
The difference here in my opinion is the management. There seems to be no sense of urgency with anything that goes on here. I've seen countless people quit in a matter of a few months. And from what I'm told, no one likes the manager.
Everytime I go through the drive thru, for the 15 minute average that I wait if there's 2 cars in front of me (yes, you read 2 correctly) im always greeted, and use the term greet very loosely, by someone who frankly has no common etiquette when it comes to the most basic dialogue between you and them. I typically get a "what do you want" and when I tell them, it's always "pull around" like I'm an inconvenience to them. People like personality and professionalism, and if you don't believe me, just go to Chic fil a on a Friday afternoon, because despite the fact that they have 20+ cars wrapped around the building, they're able to get all of them out of the way within the time it took Coney island to get 3 cars out of the way.
If you plan on going inside, don't expect to eat in a clean environment. To be blunt, the restaurant is filthy. The ceiling tiles from 1970 look like burnt toast, and not in a good way. Thankfully some only look like someone spilled their coffee upside-down. It doesn't seem that the kitchen is very clean either in my opinion.
This all brings me to my conclusion: unless you're REALLY in the mood for some Coney island chili, there really isn't anything about this restaurant that is good besides the food (which the chili is what carries all of the weight in terms of the foods taste and quality). Service is absolutely atrocious, the building itself is atrocious, and it all puts a picture in my mind that the owners really don't care at all about what goes on in their fast-but-not-really-at-all food restaurant. Frankly I'm not sure how they stay in business. If you want a hotdog but not the chili, do yourself a favor and...

Humm. These coneys are most unusual, especially for someone who's from Detroit where there are Coney Islands ALL OVER the city and surburbs and they are about as close to east cost coneys as you can get, anywhere in the country. That being said, this is the first time I have EVER had a spicey coney sauce! It's most unusual and really throws you off.
Where I'm from, coney sauce is mild and more of a yellowish brown (from mustard in the sauce); no BEANS (thank god) and real thick and hearty. Here you have a semi thick sauce, more brown than yellow in color with more than just a dollop of spice thrown in. And it's a real surprise to the tastebuds when your expecting one thing yet get another. With that being said, I cant say they were bad. But it's hard to say they were good since they are advertised as "coney islands" yet have a flavor all their own and most unique.
Humm.
Guess we'll give them another shot in the future to see if it's something I can get use to, given that I'm 250 miles from the coneys I know and that's to damn far to drive! LOL Again, I cannot say that they are bad, not at all. Priced at 1.29 each and the chili fries at 3.54, its not a bad deal. The fry portion could be just a but bigger fro the price. These just are NOTHING like a coney islands I have ever had before. Be aware, they are a constantly busy locale. Since arriving, there's only been one time that there wasn't line at the counter and it seems the drive thru has stayed hopping as well. That must say something about how the locals feel about the place, which says a LOT.
I'll update this review after a second try in the future!
Note: the mgr on duty (older white guy, blue shirt and red hat), I believe, should learn to smile more. He looks more like a numbers driven slave driver that hasn't met his quota, than a supervisor leading his crew in a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been eating at the New Castle Coney Island all of my life. I loved the food and would eat there at least once a week. Over the past several months the service and food has declined while the prices have increased. Last week I visited the drive thru and ordered three chili hot dogs, no drink, no fries. I was the only car in line and waited several minutes for someone to take my order, she repeats back my order of 3 chili dogs and tells me that will be $14.00. Pull up to the window to ask her to check the prices and waited 11 minutes and no one came to the window to deliver my order, even when I honked the horn. This was at 2:30PM. I could see one employee sitting on the floor playing on his phone and another standing beside him drinking a CI pop. Both ignored my honking. Finally a car that had pulled up behind me in the drive thru lane gave up and left. I left shortly after without ever receiving my food or any type of service. When I pulled out only one car was in the parking lot so they definitely were not busy. What a shame this used to be a great...
