There are 16 US territories around the world. Five of those sixteen territories are inhabited. I was born in one of those territories. This makes me a US citizen by birth.
I bet most Americans don't know that. In fact, I don't have to bet because I know it. I have educated many on the subject. Frankly, I am shocked and disheartened that this subject is barely touched upon in the American educational system. Since growing up on a US territory, I was made to learn the names of each US state and its capital. Now, that is not to say that I haven't had fun with the uneducation of the mainland people pertaining to US territories. As a teenager, I used to make up stories about where I was from, in school. I used to tell my classmates that inhabitants in my precious homeland used to shower only once a week. I used to say that if you had long hair you had better be living close to a creek, or better yet a river. So you could have access to clear, clean waters to wash up... Make sure to wear a thong and on and on. They believed me. That was the tragedy.
I'd rush home to tell my mother what I had done. I wanted her to know about my classmates' reactions. The first few times she laughed it off. Like me, she thought it was hilarious. But, after a while, she'd say to me that perhaps it wasn't funny anymore, and just sad.
I had a bad experience here. I stopped repeating such evil in detail because I, personally, believe it only empowers the racists and the bigots to continue acting on their uneducated behaviors. These are prejudiced people that do not deserve my attention.
However, I must call it out. I am speaking up and out to help anyone who is a POC visiting the area. If you are a tourist in this area, be warned: white supremacy is alive and well in Nevada County. If you choose to be a patron at this restaurant, be careful. Some people don't want you around here.
The food is good, for the most part. However, there was a time when I asked for a Reuben Sandwich and I got a 'Reuben' on a hoagie roll. It wasn't good at all. I didn't say anything. I ate it. Then I paid for it with tip included. But, I will never again ask for a Reuben Sandwich here again. My favorite dish at this restaurant is the Cajun Salmon with sweet potato fries...
Read moreWe stopped in at Northridge after Victorian Christmas since it was crazy in downtown Nevada City and everything was WAY too busy.
We were extremely happy with our Sunday dinner. The staff were accommodating our group of 8 (luckily they were able to join two tables). The combo appetizer platter was great (we loved the mushrooms and the jalapeno). The steak sandwich was cooked well and delicious.
The Salmon and pasta was wonderful - was a big piece of salmon that was nicely prepared. The fish and chips serving was great and hit the spot.
The raspberry donut cheesecake was incredible... It tasted exactly like it sounds (queue Homer Simpson drooling meme). s To share some humor from our visit, my wife was interested in the soup of the day, and the waitress response was "... Soup? ... ... I ... Hmm ... I don't think we made soup today... ... ... ... Yeah we definitely don't have soup today"
And I asked about the Sunday special on the menu... "umm. Sunday? ... ... Does it say that? Nobody has ever asked... ... I don't think we have one..."
We asked about the "Bacon and Beer special 4-5pm" and that one they knew... "So we started the special serving a piece of bacon on top of beers 4-5pm and it's a hit. People love it, so we keep the special every day 4-5pm"
Dang, sad we...
Read moreThis is our weekly destination! About a year ago, my husband and I started a weekly happy hour date - we spend about an hour grabbing a beer and an appetizer while we chat and enjoy some time together. The Northridge is the perfect destination- their beer selection is great, the appetizers are always tasty (try the seasoned fries or artichoke cheese bread - both are sooooo yummy), and the staff is absolutely lovely. We love that we can grab our usual spot at the bar and 2 pints of our usual beer just appear before us without even having to order. The women who run the bar on weekend evenings are so awesome and always keep an eye out for us. Did I mention that all drinks served between 4-5pm come with a perfectly crisp slice of bacon balanced across your glass?! Do not miss this place if you want to eat awesome food, drink some cold beer, and enjoy a relaxed and...
