Danny's Seafood / Bar & Grille — Restaurant in New Bedford

Okay so we were looking for a seafood restaurant something new to try Google rated this restaurant 4.5 so great rating decided to try it. We got a parking spot right out front outside appearance look like a fish store so we went to one of the two entrances we entered the restaurant side The moment we walked in the door there was this pungent smell of a dirty mop! My husband had a stuffy nose he didn't pick up on it I did and told him, the bartender looked over at us as we sat at a table there was a table of six only one with a drink and the rest with nothing were loud and boisterous hanging out more or less at table in front of the windows to the street. They didn't appear to be customers. So we sat and sat and sat with no acknowledgment from anyone meanwhile the smell was starting to make me nauseous my husband said we'll give it 5 minutes I grab my purse and my keys and so no we're leaving now! Not one person spoke to us going in or going out and from the smell I would never eat there because they obviously didn't clean their mop water! Just so if the owner wants to dispute this review I must say check your tapes and take a smell a little bleach goes a long way. As for Google 4.5 recommendations I wouldn't even give it a one if there was something...

The fish and shrimp were very fresh and quite delicious. However, the baked potatoes were undercooked, and the coleslaw had so much dressing that it resembled soup. Additionally, the service was atrocious. Upon us entering, the bartender told us to go ahead and seat ourselves in the dining room. Despite there being only one other couple in the dining room, we waited approximately 20 minutes for a waitress. She greeted us, and apologized for the wait, stating that she hadn't noticed us because we had "snuck in". Although we informed her that we had been directed by the bartender to seat ourselves in the dining room, she remained indifferent to our plight. We waited another 30 minutes for our meals to arrive. Two to three minutes after serving us she came back to ask how everything was despite the fact that we had barely stuck our forks into our food. We waited approximately 15 minutes after finishing our meals before having to walk into the bar area to request our check. It's a shame that the quality of the service did not measure up to the quality of the seafood. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Danny's Seafood. I highly suggest Inner Bay located on Cove Rd, NB. We have been eating at Danny's Seafood weekly for quite awhile. It is usually very good, that is why we return. But, tonight I was very disappointed with my dinner. It actually looked like a school lunch kids plate. We ordered chower first, which was delicious 😋 Then our dinner came. I ordered a small fish with boiled potatoes. My piece of fish was more on the miniature side (like a kids school lunch), the 1 potato was between a small and medium size potato, and the little plastic container of coleslaw was only 1/2 full. We were told they ran out of bread, which happens quite frequently. I don't know who does the ordering, but being in business since 1971 I expect they would know approximately how many customers come in on a Friday night for Seafood...the bread situation put me over the edge. The tiny roll they usually give would have helped me not be so hungry when I left. I left there hungry. It cost us $45.00 with tip, and leave hungry.
