GrandMa's Donuts and Coffee, Formerly (Ma's Donut Shop) — Restaurant in New Bedford

This is the quintessential old school donut shop experience. Ma's donuts was the donut shop of my childhood. I left the area a long time ago, and on a trip up with my family I was crushed to hear they had closed several years ago. However on this trip we were delighted to hear that the family of the original owners had reopened with a new name. With great anticipation, my daughter and wife got up early and got some donuts. I am here to say that the new owners have successfully duplicated their grandparents recipe, even if someone stole the name. At the bar one night I asked some old-timers where to find the best donuts around (around being Providence). They all emphatically said Ma's in New Bedford. They've been making them for over 50 years. They were right, the donuts were amazing, and it was totally worth the trip. Got there 7:45 on rainy January Sunday morning and there was a steady stream of people getting donuts. It felt like I was on a pilgrimage. They're efficient so it's a short line if any at all. Unfortunately I used to love making the drive and visiting this establishment but sadly I believe those days are over. Recently I made a trip there at 8am and even that early in the morning, there was basically no variety of products to purchase which is disappointing at that time of the day. To make matters worse, the pricing of almost $4 for a small donut is not worth it and the fact that the quality of the donuts are not as good as they used to be is also unfortunate for a place I used to...
